Yeah, the word at the SOS-forums is that Sonar update 2.1 will be released to morrow (oct 5th)! Yeah!

Here's some of the goodies:
SONAR 2.1 Highlights

1. OMFI and Broadcast Wave (BWF) support, providing sample-accurate import and export of OMF and Broadcast WAV audio files and sequences directly into SONAR projects without launching a separate application. Support for OMFI and Broadcast Wave files provides cross-platform compatibility with OMF host applications such as Pro Tools, Avid and Logic systems.

2. Windows Media 9 Series audio export support, providing unmatched audio quality with the latest audio streaming technology available for saving and distributing music over the internet.

3. Mackie Control surface hardware support, allowing musicians and producers to use the new Mackie surface hardware to control SONAR's recording, editing and mixing operations.
I love updates! Make me feel that I've bought a serious program... :)

BUT: What is the great deal with OMF and Broadcast WAV support? Can you use it like the Steinberg System Link? Connect two computers running Sonar, one records drums and the other guitars? Or can you create your own personal radiostation?

My understanding of OMF files is that it's a cross platform file sharing format that includes things like level and pan.At least that's how I interpeted what the Cakewalk rep said at the axis of audio tour thingy.....
Any other software that supports OMF you should be able to share projects with.He did'nt mention the other things that you did.

Sounds like a great idea, really. But let's wait and see if it really works...

So what other programs supports OMF? Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, Pro Tools?

I really think Cakewalk is making a big push for market share and this is part of it.
It will put the companies that don't support file sharing in a bad light.Hopefully it's a win-win for the consumer.

Don't know what others support it,but it will make collaborations much, much easier.

D'oh! Looks like it's more close to october 15! Oh, well.... now you know.

having the ability to save as and import omf files is a BIG step...seemless integration with Alsihad(PT) will be great for those of us who want to go to a "pro" stuio to get our stuff mixed

So Pro Tools support OMF... Anybody know if Cubase and Logic does?

in the post YOU made it says Alsihad and Logic...if Steinberg doesn't support it yet it will eventually

Oh, right ... Guess I have to read what I post...

But I was so hung-up in what Broadcast Wave was...

:D :D :D

OMFI and Broadcast Wave (BWF) support is great and all; media player 9 ..not to sure about; Mackie Control surface support - dont have one. My point is that there's ALOT of sonar users who would have liked to see more bug fixes and features added.
God i hope the programmers wrote a dll to call instead of intergrating OMFI/BWF into sonars exe - it's already a resource hog.
It seems that all companies think about is money instead of customers, regardless of 'suggestion lists'.
It all comes from the top, and us on the bottom have only to hope the upgrades are geared more towards stability and real world usability for the 'masses' - not the minority.
Don't mean to complain. It's just that it sux when you own something you have no REAL control over ..maybe i should learn to hack :-)
..just kidding.
