I've got a mini-review running over at our forums:

http://forums.frontendaudio.com/index.php?showtopic=483

The Trion8000 is sooooo right for vocals.

I have used the Trion ribbon as well, first of all it's a dual element ribbon and has a hotter output than most of its competition. Secondly though, the mic has a great natural sound to it off the face but the rear of the mic like most ribbons is more present sounding but...the Trion is different. It has a different kind of presence off the back where the mids to upper mids are being pronounced more than the backside response of most ribbons.

Damn good looking mics too, the build quality thus far of all the ones I've used is superb.

Any word on if these are built in the States or overseas?

That didn't used to be the case. I wonder what happened?

Interesting...it makes me wonder why they still have their manufacturing facility in Conneaut. So they're all 100% built and assembled in China now?

Frankly if it does NOT say plainly on either the product or the box "Made In China" it ISN"T! Back in the day (about 1992) I picked up one of their E300's when it just came out. It blew away a Neumann TLM -103 I had and that left a lasting impression. Back then they manufactured those in their Ohio facility each with it's own frequency response chart for each pattern. I fully realize they shipped production of this and the E100's over to China. however each and every one is checked out and evaluation on the bench at their Ohio facility. I've spoken with them and they are great folks. Their engineers are NOT in some ivory tower like some places. I can't speak for the Trion, but frankly I'd call their Ohio operation to confirm manufacture location and how they are evaluated. I too am getting very intrigued about this series of mics. I sincerely doubt they have the typical "Chinese" sound if you will..............

Thanks for the insight. I hope some didn't think I was asking just to be a jackass. I've had an interest in CAD's mics since I got my first AMS catalog when I started playing guitar, about 12 years ago, and learned that CAD mics were made in Conneaut, Ohio. Conneaut is in Ashtabula county. I grew up in Ashtabula county (Ashtabula city, to be precise). My wife is from Conneaut. Her grandmother is a retired employee of Astatic, CAD's sister company. CAD always seems to be putting out products that are highly regarded both in terms of quality and price point, in addition to being original designs instead of a rebadged generic Chinese piece (excepting that GXL line or whatever its called). I try to learn as much as I can about them, but information on the Net is pretty scarce, and I'm sure people here have had close dealings with them, so I ask around. I'm interested because if buying a CAD mic gets me a quality product while at the same time puts money into the pockets of some hardworking people that are local to me, then I feel its absolutely worth my time and effort to support them. So, again, thanks for the insight. If you have more info about them to share, by all means go ahead.

That's the thing, CAD is very good at releasing rich sounding mics on a budget.

Yep, those are interesting. I'd like to test one of those bad boys out.

AdamP, that's cool you living so close to Conneaut. I grew up in Geauga county. When I bought my e-100 way back I always knew that any repairs couldn't take that long because their factory was right down the road.

This is the next mic I'm purchasing, it looks cool, and I love the cad m179. I'm looking forward to trying one out soon.

I'll be looking forward to another opinion on this mic. It may well be my next one if it pans out. Right now My K2 Rode is my "go to" tube mic. But having that experience some years ago with the original e300 it really blew me away. Keep us up on this......
