CAD mics?

In my search for a good acoustic/vocal LDC I have come across another bump in the road. A friend of mine can get REally good deals on CAD mics. I checked out the site and it looks interesting. Being that I cant find any of these mics to try out, I was wondering if anyone had one. Does anyone recommend one of their mics for vocals/acoustic gtrs? I have been seriously looking at the KSM 32 (or 44 if i could find the $) and if there is a CAD that could compete that might sway my decision. any info on these mics would be really helpful. thanks...
 
I own the CAD M179, which is a nice multipattern condenser for a ridiculously low price. It has a very neutral sound compared to a lot of the cheap condensers out there. I like it on acoustic guitar for that reason. It is not very flattering on vocals, but gets the job done admirably. The switchable patterns, built in pad and rolloff make it quite versatile.

I also hear great things about the CAD M9 tube mic, but I haven't tried it.

Considering that CAD mics are already a really good deal @ full price, I would strongly consider taking him up on it.

Depends. I'd think an M-9 would more than compete. The Shures are a different animal, altogether, though. Definitely worth the higher price tag, for the most part, in my hublest of opinions.
 
I've gots a GXL2400 and it seems to be a pretty nice mic. I haven't yet recorded with it, but when testing my firepod it sounded pretty clear and very sensitive. CAD seems like a great bang-for-buck
 
You might also want to check eBay for the CAD Equitek 300, a great mulitpattern condensor. I've seen a few of them being offered in the last few months.
 
I wish I would've had the cash to jump on some M179s when people were getting them for $110, because that seems so great its almost ridiculous. I still plan on picking one up though. The continuously variable polar pattern on a mic that inexpensive seems to good to pass up.

As a side note, I noticed the other day that CAD's sister company, Astatic, is selling a mic model #CTM-1500VP that appears to be identical to the M179. Its got the same body and is continuously variable pattern. I was surprised to see this, because I thought Astatic focused on the CB/Ham radio mic market. Anyone know anything else about this?

The cad E100 and the E300 are great microphones. I have used the 300 for certain vocals that the thing just ROCKS on, even with a bunc of other choices around, including really expensive old ones from germany....
 
if it means aynthing, i have had increadibly good luck with the tonal accuracy of the CAD gxl1200 SDC.
 
I enjoy my m179 pair quite a bit. I've gotten some nice sounding vocals, but I usually eq a couple db boost into the upper midrange or lower uprange (new word). On their own they dont really have the slight brightness that can sound good on many vocals. My other mics that already are voiced for that sound are more harsh and thin, so I usually use eq instead of a different mic to get the different sound, and it's worked just fine.
