For condender mics you need hi z right not the xlr low z correct? So do I use an instrument cable for condenser mics then? Or are there hi z mic cables that I use?

oh wait I would use a XLR cable with a regular TRS connecter on the other end right? Could I use a regular Low Z cable I use with my dynamic mic with a low z to high z adapter on it for a condeser mic?

Noooooo Mr. Bill. Almost all modern mics are low impedence (lo-z) mics. There are a handful of exceptions, such as the Shure Green Bullet, a dynamic mic commonly used for harmonica. I don't know who told you condenser mics are high-z. Not unless they are very old or very unusual.-Richie

oh.. So I use the same mic cable that I use for my dynamic mic? I regular old low z mic cable?

as long as it's XLR on both ends, then yes, the same low z cable will work.

oh wow and all this time I thought they used different cables...

man i'm such a noob. Thanks everyone. Any quality mic cables you guys recommend that's not rediculously expensive?

BLUE seems to make good price/performance mic cables.

While we're on the subject, what is the difference between the 3 types of BLUE mic cables?

I think the difference you between Condensors and Dynamics you're thinking about isn't in the cable, but the fact you need HI power to run most condensors.. Phantom Power...

The differences between the Blue Cables, other than about $10 increase from one to the next...

From Blue's website...
Blue Blueberry Cable - 22-AWG high-fidelity cable highlights the neutral presence of a mic, with an extended high end frequency response. Recommended for use with the Ball, 8-Ball, Baby Bottle, Bluebird and Blueberry mics.

Blue Cranberry Cable - 20-AWG cable that highlights the rich lows and silky presence of the mic - extended low and high frequency response. Recommended for use with the Dragonfly and Mouse mics.

Bluw Kiwi Cable - Quad conductor cable (4-22 AWG) for maximum frequency resolution - extended low and high frequency response. Recommended for use with our Kiwi, Cactus and Bottle mics.
