Like many others in this forum, I'm completely new in Cubase and new to PC-based recording for that matter. Just purchased a TASCAM FW-1804 that comes with the LE edition and just have a couple questions.

First, I built a sound booth next to where the recording computer sits and need to know what to do to hear myself through the mix on the vocal mic in the isolation booth in my headphones (also what input the headphones need to go into)? I have the mic on channel one (XLR input).

Second, I purchased an app called Colossus (has just about every instrument known to man) and have gone in and added it as a VST instrument in Cubase and then added a MIDI track and pointed the OUT to Colossus. However, the delay is seriously about 3-4 seconds from when I press a note on the keyboard to when it comes out of my monitors, so I'm sure I'm obviously doing something wrong. When I open Colossus as a stand-alone app outside of Cubase, this is not an issue, as the music is played in real-time. This brings me to my final question:

What are the optimal settings in Cubase for minimizing latency? I've got a dedicated computer that I built specifically for recording and didn't hold back, so performance should NOT be an issue...dual 3.8Ghz processors, 2GB RAM, and two internal hard disks - one 80GB IDE drive for the OS and others programs, and one 300GB S/ATA drive only for the music programs and recording. I know computers, but lack any formal training in recording, so be kind! And yes, I'm reading the manuals and have even ordered a triple set of DVDs on Cubase training. Anyway, any help someone can give would be GREATLY appreciated. :)

Thanks all!

Standard problems mate. Using the search function would have helped you quicker, but either way, it's an ASIO settings problem. You have your drivers set to MultiMedia instead of the ASIO drivers that came with your tascam. Use those. Mess around in the Devices menu and the preferences, you'll learn alot.

Thank you! I'm about half way through the first of 4 .pdf files that come with the software, so they haven't touched on that yet...this will really help out.
Cheers,
Kevin

if you still have latency, you may have to go to the tascam audio driver console and adjust buffers as well.
