Ive been told that i should be using stereo cables instead of mono for my speakers can anyone verify this.

Im using Event precision 8 Actives
At the moment im using planet waves 1/4 inch jacks.

thanks

First off, although the cable is the same as would be used for a stereo signal, that is not what you are being advised to do. The Events have balanced inputs, and you need two-conductor cable (TRS, tip-ring-sleeve) to take advantage of the interference suppression of a balanced input.

However, you have to be driving the Events from a balanced output, or it makes no difference. What are you using to feed the Events?

Having said that, you may or may not notice a difference when you switch to balanced cable, especially if you had a short cable run to begin with.

Hi thanks for your reply.

Im using the digi 002. In the maual it says
Input 1 This balanced 1/4" line input jack accepts a male two-conductor
1/4" TS or three-conductor 1/4" TRS connector, wired for either balanced or
unbalanced operation. For unbalanced operation with a TS connector, the minus
signal is automatically grounded; with a TRS connector you have the option of leaving
the minus input open or grounded. We recommend, however, that you ground the
unused input. For balanced operation, which requires using a TRS connector, please
consult the pin wiring diagram on Page 5 or on the monitor’s back panel.

So would you say that the cables im using are sufficient.
Thanks again

Sufficient....yes.....because they are working.

Efficient?....no.....becuase there is a more highly reccomended higher quality way to do it. Get yourself some TRS cables.

Balanced audio cables.
T= Tip
R= Ring
S= Sleeve
That's the pin out on the 1/4" connectors. The tip is hot, the ring is return and the sleeve is the shield.

Stereo 1/4" or balanced TRS 1/4" - they're the same thing. But if you've got cables that work right now, with no induced noise to speak of, then don't go out and buy a cheap set of balanced cables to replace them. Make it a worthwhile, audible upgrade and buy or make some good quality balanced cables.

that's my .02 on this,
RD
