C3000 Question?

I just got my first condensor mic today, an AKG c3000-b. The problem I have is that I am getting a hiss sound from the mic. I am running it direct into my Alesis Studio 32 and from there to my HD-24. The hiss goes away if I mute the channel, so it is the mic. i have phantom power on (of course it doesnt work without it) so what could it be>>? Do i have to have a mic pre-amp for it to work right?

It sounds good on drums as an overhead for cymbols, I guess because the hiss isn't as outstanding. But on VOX or anything else such as acoustic guitar, I can hear the hiss pretty bad?

By the way, I have tried different cables, different rooms, ect....

maybe its your alesis studio 32? i used to want one, 'cuz all the routing is cool. not anymore! try another channel?

Flatnote, can you take to the dealer and try it on a different mic
pre or mixer that has phantom power?
It's rare for AKG to make a defective microphone, though certainly
possible. It's probably more likely it's the Alesis board.

i own that mic though i hate it for vocals and prefer the cheaper 2000b for vocals however its a killer mic for acoustic there is no hiss on it its your baord alesis making mixers lol to funny

one thing you could try a cheap preamp and cut the pres off on the board or if there is direct outs use them and see if its any better
