Bring Back Transfat!
I was considering a pair of these as overheads before jumping into V-Drums. I'm wondering if it still might be a good choice for guitar. A C1000 and a 4033?

I think acoustic guitars are like voices; you never know how it's going to sound until you try it. Something darker might compliment the 4033 better, though.

bleh

Go with the Rode NT3's if you need the $200 or so price range for the 2 small di. cond's..they're $50 less, are NOT electret, and sound really nice for the price.

I have a 4033, and a Rode NT3. I am a beginner and getting really good results with my Taylor 555 Twelve-string.

I started with a C-1000 and a 4033, just like you are suggesting. I feel very confident in saying you will get much better results on acoustic guitar with a pair of Octava MC-012s or a pair of Marshall 603s. You will also save alot of money by using either of those rather than the pair you are considering. In fact, you can buy two of either of those for the price of one C-1000 and you will have enough left for your large diaphragm condensor vocal mic.

Id try 3 mics.....a mxl603/Behr ecm8000/oct012 type mic over the shoulder ala Harvey Gerst....and then out front with the 4033 and a sm57.....

The ECM8000 has kind of a nice tone aimed right at the sound hole with a little drop on high eq. Too sensitive for over the shoulder. I'm gonna grab 603 or an 012 next week. I'm also looking at acoustic pickups.

BTW- Merry Christmas everybody! Don't eat too much! ;)

NOOOOOO! Do not use a pickup to record. You will get nasty quacky piezo pickup results.

From my experiences with my c1000 I'd say it tends to sound pretty thin on acoustic guitars. The top end doesn't sound very natural to my ears. But take that with a grain of salt because most of the acoustics I record sound either thin or boomy...absolutely no middle ground between them.

I did exactly this just yesterday as an overdub. Put the 4033 about 2 ft out from the guit, and the 1000 overhead between the 4033 and guitar. Both ran into an Art Dual MP (no gain on the 4033, reversed phase on the 1000) and into a Korg D1600 with no effect settings. It was probably the best acoustic recording I've ever done. I've often used the two mics by themselves and have almost always been extremely happy, but using both of them is beautiful. I'm looking forward to trying different positions. Man, that's something I haven't said in a while :)
