This dude has some NTK and C1 comparison clips posted if anyone wants to check them out...

Actually I was listening to "Mr. Bojangles" because he used the WamiRack converters and I wanted to see how open they sounded, but if anyone is interested, he also used an NTK on the vocals of that one, too, and the guitars I beleive.
On the WamiRack thing... anyone use them?

I'm pretty sure maryslittlesecret uses a Wami Rack. It sounds like it works well for him.

I like the NTK on the guitar and voice. Much more open.

Very interesting.

I've always liked the c1 on guitar, but it sounded hard in comparison to the soft sound of the ntk.

I've always disliked the c1 on vocals, but I couldnt justify spending and extra $200 on the ntk after listening to this. The vocal sound is considerably close even though the ntk is still a little bit softer and more velvety

Damn CJ, every other post you change your mind about the NTK. Maybe you should just throw in the towel and admit that you're never gonna like it.

I would have to agree with the Jag on this. In these clips the Rode sounded better on guitar. I wouldn't give either one the edge on the vocal.

However, I don't think it's particularly wise to allow yourself to be swayed by these kind of things. There's just to many variables. First it depends upon the non bias of the person doing the testing. This guy may be very honest, but he may be trying to stack the deck.

You don't really know how the test was set up (micing techniques etc.) Also, what kind of acoustic environment was it done in. A bad acoustic environment can make a superior mic sound very inferior to a inferior mic.

Rick Knepper was posting on another group the other day. He was advising someone on the purchase of some Neumann mics. He said a 149 would sound like crap unless you had a decent room. A closet with some auralex wouldn't cut it.

That being said. I would like to get my hands on one of those NTK's and do my own comparisons.

charger,

what are you talking about?

In both cases, I prefered the sound of the ntk. I was giving props to the c1 for coming so close to the vocal sound of the ntk.

Doesnot mean that I'll like every ntk sound I hear. Maybe one in every 7 as is the case right now.

Jag,

Have you had the opportunity to get your hands on either of these mics yet?

I brought the guitar samples up in Sound Forge and took a look. For a solo guitar, I liked the NTK better. In a mix I'd go for the C-1.

I have the wami

Tube, I have the wamirack24. I bought it primarily for the ins and outs...I literally use all of them and luckily don't find myself climbing behind the rack for plugging and replugging. Every I have recorded so far has come off a audio technica dynamic mic, direct outs from some midi sound modules, and the SPDIF digital out of a Johnson J-station. As far as quality, it blew my mind....of course I was upgrading from tape and never even played around with a soundcard (soundblaster) before.

One thing, the noisy pre-amps are worthless as well as the 15 volt phantom power which won't operate my Ocatva. I am about to buy a dual preamp for my condensor mic.

As far as stability, I haven't had any problems with Cubasis or N-tracks. I've been in touch with "J" (Maryslittlesecret), and he uses Sonar, apparently works well for him.

I gotta believe the output quality is comparable to the Delta, Aardvark, or Event. I simply ignored published specs and looked for real world feedback.....I bought it because of the connection package. I want to get my ideas down while they are fresh....not be hassled with cables and setups.

Damn. I couldn't get the link to work. And it's only been one day since the original post.:(
