Not sure if that site has poor bandwidth or something but streaming it was not working to well for me. I downloaded it and it was fine.

It sounds really good. Everything is pretty clear. Sarah has a good voice. On her reverb I would consider bringing down the lower frequency reflections if your reverb has that EQ adjustment. They are just supplying a little mud.

Guitars and bass sound good. nothing really sticks out there.

It does seem like there are some slight timing issues. One example is around 1:20 when whatever your playing in background comes in(the one on the snare beat) it's too early a couple times. I think it is throwing the whole chorus off.

Other than that I think it sounds pretty good. Good job guys and gal.

Thanks bruthish! I'll do a cut on Sarah's reverb, I didn't even notice till you pointed it out. The timing issues are from drums right? Or some other instrument?

yeah the stream was breaking up for me too. first, the acoustic sounds great to me, nice and clear. i'm somewhat put off by the cross-sticking sound. it's very "pop"-y and "click"-y. jumps out at me too much. the spacing is great, nice job on panning. i agree with bruthish on sarah's voice - nice ;) way to go on the collab guys

I think it's an edit where the chorus ends and the transition back to the verse begins, right at 1:25. It sounds like the beat jumps ahead slightly.

Yeah I think you're right about the sticks. They kind of jumped out at me at times but I think I started ignoring them after several listens. Value of having fresh ears from others. . .

You should set up a soundcloud. I hate to admit it, but I think soundcloud's compression routine does nice things to an MP3.

Actually I do have one! But I wanted to have you guys hash out issues before I posted there. Friends and family follow that one so I figured it would be less confusing to them if I only post one maybe two versions up there instead of works in progress.

Google drive is not great though I agree, no one seems to do stuff just right except soundcloud.

post an update here if ya patch something up before putting it on SC

Actually you can set your track to "private" and then go to "share" and get a "secret link" that you can post here. No one will see it except us and those you share the link with.

better idea...good thinking. missed that one

I like the song. nice vocal.
As for the mix it's pretty good. I noticed that the snare rims hot is really loud. I would bring the volume down a bit on it. The bass needs to come up in volume IMO. The guitar lacks clarity....maybe play with the eq on it.
great effort!

Thanks jimi! I agree the bass should come up, things sound different now I'm listening on different headphones. I'll check out those other things too.

I think the singer has a nice voice. But I'll bet you can get a better take. It sounds a little over-rehearsed. She needs to relax and let loose. I thought the reverb on the vocal was a little non-natural-ish. I'd go for a short ambiance reverb.

I thought the clean electric sounded pretty good. And I thought the synth-ish parts were nice touches.

I'm not hearing much from the bass. The low end is dominated by the kick.

The drums sound a little mechanical and sample-y.

The song was pretty and the instrumentation was very good.

The fade at the end was kind of chopped off.

All good points. I'm not sure I can do much about the drum though unfortunately. I played it with a keyboard so that's as natural as I can get without a real kit. I'm gonna file away the note to help Sarah on our next piece, I think she's as ready to move on from this as I am haha. I can get the reverb under control though, that's an easy fix. . .

Here I played with all the changes suggested and I like where they took things. I think I figured out the off-tempo thing in the chorus, there was a tambourine jumping around. Surprising how hard it is to play a simple tambourine in time. I gotta work on the guitar eqs yet, there are a lot of them. :)

Mix 2
Edit: that's not right. . . let me fix this link.

I like the extra bass version. :) That was easlern's bass line. I'm just the cat with the Jazz bass. I'm not sure all those extra kicks help the groove, verse especially.

Wow I made the extra bass as an experiment, I thought it would be too boomy. I'll have to listen in the car. Usually the headphones I mix with understate the bass so I'm careful not to overdo it.

Best one so far. The kicks aren't so prominent now. I see you put back that little harmonized guitar run after the first chorus. The bass isn't too boomy for me. That's the risk with the neck pickup of a Jazz bass. It's a beautiful, open sound, but it can get bottomy. I figured you would sort it out.
