I'm lookIng to buy a used small Mackie mixer and am wondering when looking at the used shops, what the procedure would be, am I able to be sure everything is in decent working condition by powering it up running a mic in & monitoring it with headphones, or what should I be looking for (besides XDR preamps), any comments would be helpful.

If ou are able to give the mixer the full once over, check for corroded contacts or residue buildup in the ins & outs. Ride faders
all the way to listen if there is any shorting or static. Insure that all inputs are opereational. Boost trim and faders to the maxc while a signal source is connected to a channels pre to determine if there is any inherent hum or noise. Check the body of the board for any dents, cracks or physical damage indicating if unit was ever dropped which might have damaged certain channels internal worrkings.
Just a few hints when checking out used equipment.

Good suggestions from the wunda brutha!

The good thing about the newer mixers like that is since everything is on a circuit board they will usually be 100% functional or not. Double check all the jacks and knobs since that is where individual components can go bad.
