Someone is selling software I want for recording on ebay, because they upgraded. Can buy it and use they're license # legitimately? The seller said:

"The software has already been registered, so you can't transfer it."

so what does that mean? anybody have an idea?

It means you can't register with the company as te owner of the software, which means you may have difficulty getting support and/or upgrades for it. It really depends on the company though. As I understand, there are some that will allow licenses to transfer, while others will not. If the seller upgraded to another version of the same software though, odds are that the company will not support him selling the software to someone else.

It should be explained in the End User License Agreement for the software. Check the company's website for that.

it's reason by the way. The guy said he upgraded to 4... so maybe its not legit.

As long as it is not a pirated copy, you can buy it legally. The ELU may prevent it's sale by the ORGINAL owner but not you.

There has been a recent court case in favor of consumers selling their software.

Howevere, the sofware firm may not give you any support.

Have the seller download all patches and burn them to a cd for you.

Make sure you have the right of return if you can't get the software to install and run.

I just bought a copy of Sonar 4 Producer edition off of Ebay. I got the orginal CDs and the manual. Since I have a registered copy of Sonar 4 Studio Edition I had all the patches I need.

Good luck!
