Hello everybody,

Anyone know if it's possible to get good deals on gear in Hong Kong? I happen to be going there in a couple of weeks and am thinking about buying a couple of mics like the Rode NTK if prices are considerably lower there than in the USA.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I've bought some stuff there while on vacation
a few times. The only music store that's worthwhile
is probably Tom Lee Music. The main branch is in Kowloon.
I don't know if they got Rode Mics there, but you can check
out there website for product listings, and maybe e-mail them.
I'm sure they'll welcome your inquiry. The store staff are
friendly and proffessional, compared to most stores. Don't ever walk into an obscure music store, they might just rip you off
one way or another. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Deen. The web site gives the impression that they don't have much of a selection of recording gear, and I couldn't get any price info. Maybe I'll check them out once I get to Hong Kong.

I doubt gears in hongkong will be cheaper than US. Maybe some of those chinese brand stuffs, but not Rodes.....

However, Rodes are pretty cheap in Singapore.

Hi Don,

It's good you still plan to visit Tom Lee Music. You just might find
something on sale. There usually is a "grabber" deal somewhere,
and when it's cheap, it's really cheap. Most of the major stuff is about the same as in the U.S. Some accessories and gadgets are reasonably priced too. Good luck! and Happy Shopping!
