Buying a Tascam 02 as a Gift - Need Advice

I am purchasing a Tascam 02 as a gift for a 12 year old. Is the appropriate? If so, what would be the minimum equipment needed for him? He plays an electric quitar. Should I buy him a mic? What type? As you can see I want to buy him a basic package.

tascam 4-tracks are very simple to use and he should be fine with it. for a first mic for electric guitar, i'd reccomend a shure sm57... i don't remember the specs of the 02 so i don't know if it has an xlr connector and a preamp (basically, i don't know if you can plug the mic in to the 4-track without a special cable or other equipment)... the 02 definately is a good idea for him, just ask the guys at the store you buy it at what you need mic-wise
