I've finally decided on getting a Big Baby Taylor, and wanted to see if there were any sites online to compare prices. Taylor doesn't appear to be listed on many sites...actually I've only found it on one for $329.99. I hear other people have gotten it for less. Any idea where else I could find it other places online? (I've already checked some of the obvious ones like musiciansfriend.com)

Thanks!

taylor doesn't allow any online price lists...

in fact..

no dealer can advertise them online....

not even used one's I believe.

the only thing you can do is go to taylor's site and request a catalog..it has list prices in it..then go to a local shop and see what % they are discounting.

if they do advertise them online, I guess the "taylor police" will come and stick a bolt-on neck up their ass. LOL:D

on a side note,
why would you want to by a guitar on-line. Unless you just comparing prices or can't get to the music store there is no substitute to playing the guitar first. Even if you played Baby Taylor that someone else has, the one you buy will probably be different.

Ya, I was just looking for prices. The list price (available at the taylor site) appears to be much higher than what you can get at other stores. I've played a couple of the big baby's and found the tone and play much better than other guitars twice as much.

Right now I've got a Ovation Celebrity (which is not the greatest), and most of the acoustics I played sounded roughly the same, but the Big Baby just really stood out for that price.

I'd be willing to buy this guitar online if the price difference was large enough, but calling around shops in the area, it looks like I can get it for about the same price or cheaper and get to try it out. So, it looks like I'm probably headed back to another guitar shop tonight.

I'd definitely play a guitar before I bought it. I tried out 3 different Martin D2Rs before I bought one and they all sounded different. Taylors have nice crisp sounds to them so I don't think you'd have a wide variety of tones, but I think it's better safe than sorry--particularly with acoustic guitars.

i just bought a Taylor 614ce at a local store. i've played quite a few Taylors lately and I've found them to be fairly consistent in tone and playability. i wouldn't hesitate to buy a Baby Taylor online, though. but, i don't think i'd buy a more expensive like the 614.

the local stores in my area generally discount the Taylor about 30%.

the Baby Taylor is a great low end guitar. Larevee makes similar guitars that are loud and toneful too.

check out ebay.

here's two pic's of my new 614ce:

I've seen the Taylor you speak of at MARS in Somerville, Mass., and it was a fair guitar. I was shopping for a buddy's first acoustic, and price was an issue. Guitars are like fingerprints, and the cheaper they are, the more they vary from one example of the same model to another. I would never buy a guitar except one that felt good *in my hands*. Unless you're into the level where you deal with custom luthiers, just play 30, 40, 50 cheap guitars, new or used, until you find one where the tone, the neck, and the intonation is good, and that feels easy to play. Ignore the name at the top- Richie
