Buy a $1000 Guitar, yea right.....

If you can't hear the difference - then to you there is no difference.

I can hear the difference.

Which is why I have great sounding guitars that cost more than $200.

I knew that my comment would spark things up here.
I also know now, by all of the "Ego’s" that are bruised here,
that a lot of people can't “handle” the true facts...

The first thing is I have been playing for a long time, and my statement that you can buy a cheap "no-name" guitar for $200.00 or "LESS" and have it play and sound like a Martin or Taylor is true.

No "B.S." about that, or I wouldn’t even posted it!

It now really seems to me, that a majority of people, which responded to my post, buy these expensive "wonder guitars" because they “believe” that the more expensive their guitars are, the better they are going to play!

I bet their local music shop LOVES to pump money out of their respective wallets! :D

I also see that some people agree to both sides of this "so called" common argument. These people at least, give me SOME respect as a fellow guitar player, Thanks.

Not only have I been playing guitar for a long time now, I am also a 3rd generation acoustic guitar player. I also play Electric Bass, Electric Guitar, Keyboards and Harmonica. I also sing, and have a 3 and a half octave range. I also write and record my own songs. I know I'm going to get more flames for this post,
and I'll roll them right off.

I DO NOT think I am a music GOD, just want to pass some more happy like info to the rest of you,
NOT that it is going to matter,

to the people who think that you have to buy,

all of your music equipment, for no less then a $1000 dollars a piece,

to be up to a acceptable musician,
and have some sort of "standard status"

Once again people.... GET REAL! :p

range for?i have a one and a half octave vocal range that i
picked up for $200 and it sounds just as good as any three and a half i ever heard.

OK, I'll put my bruised ego aside. Please provide us with a comprehensive list of the makes and model numbers of these sub $200.00 guitars you are talking about. You made the claim, now back it up with some REAL guitars.

If you can do that, I'll go play them and back up your claim if I feel it is anywhere near true.

If you can't provide adequate REAL examples, your claim is nothing more than ass air.

Dammit I know this guy from someplace and it's driving me nuts.
He was the toast of Scottsdale for a long time but that's not it. He plays (actually pretty good) in a white guy flamenco Bud & Travis style like I do when paid to do so, and his face and speaking voice is so familiar.
 
How long have you been playing guitar Shinobi? Isn't that name a Sega game. You couldn't have been play that long. I am 21 and have been playing for 10 years. I don't consider that a long time. Longer than most who quit after 6 months, but my neighbor is 50 and has been playing since he was 12.
 
Shinobi, I have an open mind and a boat load of expensive guitars. Convince me. Let's hear some tunes you've done on any guitar. Post a tune.

Back to the $200 guitar thing. I think you can get a better guitar today than the equivalent money would have purchased 40 years ago. The lower end $35 Kays, Regals, and Harmonys were pretty crappy.
 
Although I have heard some pretty good sounding cheap guitars there is something to be said for buying quailty. The fact that anyone has to defend a purchase is just that. There is no need to defend your 200 dollar guitar, if you like it, play it. But, it is a fact that a finely made guitar from a reputable company that has taken great steps for detail is worth every penny. I will say that years ago I may have disagreed with myself here but after playing for awhile you learn this to be true.

I do have a couple of lower level acoustic and electric guitars that sound great but....

Do you ever play any art and music festivals? He used to play a lot of those. He also plays at a lot of the resorts around here.

He is a pretty good player but his repetoire is pretty cheezy. How many times can you listen to a flemenco guitar with casio accompanyment version of Greensleaves.

You just described the talents of about 90% of the people on the board. There is little special about being a guitar player with a few side gigs.

You also still haven't explained why you own multiple Martin guitars, which if they are indeed Martin should each be worth well over $1000.

You also haven't told us where we can buy friends who will give us guitars without names on them that sound as good as Martins. Can I buy them online?

I've been playing for close to 15 years. I'm just now graduating to the $400 range. I could afford a several thousand dollar axe because I'm at that point in my life where I can take care of it.......but I can't do it justice at my skill level so why bother? My less than stellar songwriting/recording isn't going to benefit.

I do have an Ernie Ball SR bass that is pretty much the unique sound I want. That was a bit pricey for my modest approach. If home recording is your gig.....consider the aggregate.

I have been trying to find some testimonial on Aslin Dane guitars, specifically their 335 knock-offs. I've heard good things about them and especially their fingerboards......but I can't find one to play/demo. Does anyone have any first hand experience with these?

Esteban does put the 'flem' in flemenco.......he plays that shit better than I do though. Then again, he doesn't play the banjo.

I don't think it was an art or music festival. Maybe the fair circuit, a ski resort or an opening act, but not that look or name.

Same thing happened with Leon Redbone. It was backstage at the Starlight bown in LA around 1975 and we were going nuts trying to place this guy I was seeing for the first time with that identity. Had his own little trailer/dressing room that was like 1920 inside. Anyway, Hoyt Axton goes, "Oh, thats _________, the folksinger out of New York". So now I can't remember who that is either. Shit.
