Time to get real people.

I been coming around here for a while now,
even though maybe not posting as much as I should.

I keep reading that a majority of you swear by these "wonder guitars" that are not really
less then say $900 dollars USD. I have played Acoustic and Regular guitars for 15 years now.

There are a number of off name brands of guitars that are just as good as a “Taylor” or “Martin” but at a fraction of the cost, Like LESS THEN $200 dollars USD,
and they sound and play, JUST AS GOOD.

Here is a great example.
I just received from a friend of mine, a nice sunburst color acoustic,
No name on the guitar anywhere, but it sounds and records just as good as any of my Martins. Seems like the majority of you guys only go for “top shelve” stuff, when the real deal is that you could get a whole bunch more for your money by buying a less inexpensive guitar, and get the same sound and durability.

Maybe some of you feel better with less money in your pockets, or maybe it’s just a big ego stroke type of thing. But as my Late Uncle use to say “it’s not the guitar but the person behind it that makes the music….”

Be Happy,
Shinobi. :p

Also, I'm sure you'll get lots of replies. It's like walking into a Mercedes convention and saying your Escort rides just as well.

Yeah, right.

It seems like almost a class war type of arguement....hate what you don't have...

...thats why we all hate Kid Rock!

Everyone with me!

Yah!

Acually Cocky isn't that bad...

While I'm sure that there is a sub $200 guitar out there that plays and sounds as good as a taylor, The case of that happening would be VERY rare. A guitar that is below $200 would most certinally either be all laminate or a very low grade solid top and lamite back and sides. Also..it may play great now but years down the line when it needs a neck reset your more than likely screwed as sub $200 guitars are not made with future adjustability in mind. They are made as a begginer/throw-away guitar. That is not to say that a checp guitar does not have it's place it does but just not up to the caliber of the other ones you mentioned much less stacked up against anything of higher quality. I personally have never heard or played a sub $200 guitar that would hold a candle playability/tone wise to a low end taylor or a high end hand made guitar. If you have found a guitar that does........well more power to you, you found the needle in the haystack. The age old cliche is well used for a reason... "you get what you pay for."

Yeah, get real people. My Cort dread sounds BETTER than your Collings, and my Behringer desk KILLs your Ghost!

Oh yea, and my SE Electronics condenser is JUST AS GOOD as your Neumann!

And I can play guitar JUST AS GOOD as Leo Kottke!

As a matter of fact, go here www.IsuckAndSoDoesMyGear.com and you can hear my fabulous guitar playing recorded with my JUST AS GOOD AS YOURS gear.:D

Oh, and for you ladies, did I mention that I look JUST LIKE Mel Gibson. :D And sing like James Taylor.:D

my 2 cents. I think both sides are right. My $1000($500 used tho) Takamine and $100 Jasmine both play good and have their uses for dif applications. I sometimes regret getting the Takamine cuz the Jasmine sounds pretty awsome already.

Another thing, my strat sounds/plays better than any of those $4000+ Les Paul I have played in my opinion. But, what do I know....

So, I think there are people out there that think $1000+ guitars/gear are better cuz of the big bucks they have spent, and there are people that find actual values of spending so much.

Well, call me a snob but in my 35+ years of playing guitar, I've NEVER seen a $200 acoustic guitar that could compare to a quality instrument of any make, Martin, Taylor or whatever. Just a personal observation.

Shinobi,
you say that your friends guitar sounds and plays just as good as your Martin(s)...

this told me 2 things: 1st your friend bought a $200 guitar, not you. and 2nd you have bought more than one martin.

my qeustion is ...why are you saying thats its not wise to pay the Martin or Taylor price when you have payed that price more than once?

Your statement would have more credibility if you said that YOUR cheap ass acoustic(s) sounded better than you friends Martin. Then you would actually be doing (buying cheap acoustics) what you're telling us to do.

In my last post I forgot to say this. I have been playing for over 25 years and have played thousands of different acoustics.

In my opinion, someone that thinks guitars in the $200 and less range stack up against high end Martins and Taylors has not played alot of high end guitars....or....they basically are strumming open chords and singing "red river valley"

the only "cheap" guitar i have ever played that stacked up against high end martins and taylors was a vintage gibson hummingbird. (hummingbirds are WAY out of the $200 range though)

Hey, those are made out of genuine wood like material and they have up to six strings and everything.

I'm glad you clarified that TR!! LMFAO :D

You know, when all you're used to is your own hand, it probably does seem like a serviceable replacement for a good piece of ass.

hahahhah..oh gosh...thanks for the laugh of the day...that estaban is a stange dude.. I mean..he can play good yeah but he freaks me out. And the guitar he is pushing..man...wheh..what to say... well nothing really track rat said it all..

Esteban

I know that jive ass from somewhere and its driving me nuts. Anyway, someone over in the Taylor forum got one for a friend just starting out and said it's probably worth the $100.

If we are talking new acoustics, I can't think of anything under $2000 that I'd be interested in. 45 years of playing experience and a 20 guitar inventory have made me a snob.

All that said, if I were looking for something in the $200 range I'd look for '70's and '80's Yamaha, Takamine, Avarez-Yairi. They were well made, and you can break even or even make a few bucks when you sell it.

thats funny, and, exactly right ....i hate to be adding to a topic that has been beat to death ,but,if your frugal thats one thing and there are nice cheap guitars but don't condemn others just to make yourself feel better about not wanting to spend money

LMAO:D

I love that infomercial, The last one I saw was pretty funny when that girl banged up his real guitar.hee...hee.

I have a dg 7 and like it, because that's all I could afford at that time, every time I play a high end acoustic(at the local guitar shop) I almost can't play my fender again. Maybe our friend can give us the name and model of these sub 200 dollar jobs, then I could hang up the fender.

You know... I saw Paul Simon playing a Martin last night at the grammy's... and I thought... man what an idiot... he could be playing a $200 no-name guitar and it would play and more importantly sound just as good......

LOL
