Hello Folks,
An almost finished mix - the special guest guitar solo has been joined by the special guest drum thumper to add more than a little chilli & lime juice to the track.
I may be lucky enough to reveal the guest performers after they're satisfied with the mix. Until then here's a quick one while we're away.
Please listen & PLEASE comment re the mix.
A guitar line from the original is missing at present & will need rerecording. It was a distorted but smooth & heavily delayed sustain of the chords. I don't know whether it's actually MIA in this mix or indeed whether it's become redundant. Does this mix sound likes it's missing something? I'm so used to the extra guitar that I can't be very abstract in my appraisal.

Sounds almost perfect, the only things I didn't like is a clicking to the left during the choruses, not sure what it is, hat?, shaker?, at it's current level it's a little annoying, and the bacground vocals to the left, I feel off-balace as if the two are trying to steal focus from the center at the same time.

I'm listening through studio cans, so the sterio effect is prominent, when I pull the phones, the BG vox sound fine, just the clicking is loud.

I love the kick sound, well all the drums sound great and sit in the mix.

Great song and sound.

Hi Torp.,
Clicking - is that the rhythmic clicking of the rice in a pringles can type or the the occasional woodblock type?
I've been a little uncertain about both.
L B/vox - OK - there are bvox in both channels & they balance when solo'd but in the mix one stands out & pulls to the side - I think it's a bit toppier & gives more image clues. I'll try to get an EQ balance & get them both at a better level in terms of the main vox - they do seem to stick out more in h'phones but I do want to achieve a good balance for cans as I usually listen through them a lot when not mixing.
The drums are pretty flash aren't they - I have a secret weapon that I may yet get to reveal.
Thanks for the response and the detail. I'll give everything a burl & see what works. Ta.

I agree with the left shaker comments. It's kinda distracting. But overall, this is easily the best version I've heard so far. Much more balanced and spacious sounding. My only real issue with this mix besides the L shaker is the vocal sound. The main vox sounds kind of thin and mid-rangey. It's not bad, but it lacks some "fullness" almost like it was recorded through a cheap dynamic mic. Maybe cut some mids a little and gently boost some lows or low-mids on the vocal track to give it some fullness. Overall though, this mix is way better than previous mixes I've heard. Great job.

Its the rice in a can :D the occasional I didn't notice, I'll have to listen again.

you can keep your secret unless it involves 1 mic or less :D, just can me up some samples ;) I probably won't ever get to record real drums myself, at least with the proper equipment.
