Burning Locks On Disks

Hello All,
Is there such a thing as a lock put on a disk by a manufacture to keep people from burning them.
For example when you actually open a disk, on one of the folders is a disk with two bars acrossed it, does that block it from being copied correctly?
Usually found on games like DRIVER, TEST DRIVE 6 etc
 
Sure sounds like it! But it's not technically a lock, just works like one...it involves some pretty tricky low-level stuff.
 
So how would you recommend getting around it? I'm trying to make a backup copy of my Midtown Madness and I'm getting an error like illegal file or some s**t like that.

Any clues, ideas, help would be greatly appreciated.
