Well, occasionally as everyone can attest, I find good deals on different mics and post them. That was the case here.
The deals on the 441's are GREAT deals.
So I posted it, that there were several available, cause for awhile there were none.
So if you have a problem with it, fuck the hell off and dont read the thread, asshole. Easy as pie. See ya.
Fact is, there are 10,000 people coming here regurgitating the same ole "whats the best mic for $300" shit (probably you most likely), and this mic fits the bill. People deserve to be told about it before being steered right into a B1 or something. The mic will out-smooth most any other mic on most any source.
Everyday, the same 10 people recommend the B1, the C1, the V67, the VMP1, the blah blah blah, but I guess THEY dont get tiring after the 3rd, 4th or 900th time, eh, and they arent nagging in any way?
Next time you have something stupid, useless and moronic to post in a thread, take it to the cave. You have a 900 post count, and about 100 of those might be useful I'm willing to bet.
 
For lack of better words, I think the SM7 has a dryer, flatter sound than the 441, but I wouldnt characterize the 441 as bright, either. Brighter than the sm7 perhaps. It does have a high lift switch on it, though. I think the SM7 is killer on some voices, as is the 441. But I dont think vocals are the 441's thing, really... I find it to work great on snare, kick even, guitar cabs, bass cabs, lots of vocals sound really really good on it... its also reputed to sound great on horns though I've never recorded a horn. I think the SM7 might be considered a good choice on horns too, actually.
I would not call the SM7 smoother, though. The 441 is as smooth as my $1200 Soundelux, which is quite a smooth sounding mic.
Any other mic mentioned will kill the 441 in output though.
The M88 is in the league, but I think the m69 is trailing the two...
I like the 441 better than all of them, followed by an even tie with the m88 and SM7 depending on sources.
I am a big Beyer fan.

No, because they don't have the same attitude as you. Like I said before, most people say something like "I think the B1 would work well for you." You say, "Quit screwing around and get your asses over there" and things like that. The underlying assumption of this comment being that, if we aren't interested in the 441 we must be "screwing around." It's your condescending, naggy attitude that I find annoying. Maybe it's just me though.

Way to overreact, BTW. You don't take too well to mild criticism, I take it.

that mike looks cool as hell. Its outta my league right now too though. where do you search for good prices like this on mics besides ebay?
 
darn those went so cheap. it was just a bad time for me or else I would have bid.

Look, I think you might be a little crabby. :D

The dudemeister, I believe, was merely trying to be of help. And the tone I believe he was taking was not that of a nag. I think he was basically saying it rather facetiously. I mean "Quit screwing around" is hardly using harsh words. :D

Maybe if he had said something like "quit being a useless bunch of toad-licking maggots" or something along those lines . . .

Na, but even then, you'd probably think he was still just joking around. I think it's just PMS.
 
Looking at ebay and Prepal I think it's safe to say that the bottom is kind of dropping out of the market for used 421s and 441s (OTQ: If the 441 is better than the 421, then is the 431 also better than the 421? Or is that just an accident of model number allocation). Which means that home studio geeks like me can afford to add them to their arsenal for considerably less than a few years ago.

And an added bonus is that both mics look like Star Trek props (original series, of course :D )

That's what I was thinking. (original is the only one for me :) But that's another topic. maybe in the dungeon!)
 
Knowing our own characteristics as singers and/or instrumentalists
really helps in microphone selection.

For example, being a confirmed :) vocal "popper", the 441 is unlikely
to ever be a first grab on my voice.
Whereas the Beyer M88TG works like a charm.
Although I have other excellent sounding choices now, it's still the M88
that wows me.

I also think the EV RE16 is THEE microphone for someone looking for the
easier life onstage, due to it's variable-D design that lessens proximity
effect. Net result is much less effort being concerned about "working"
the microphone=better singing for less experienced live vocalists.
Plus it sounds good on many types of voices live or in the studio.

P.S. If you're looking for that vintage vocal sound ala Sun Records/Early RCA,
the EV RE15 or RE16 works excellently BTW.
