Is that RIAA ON the vinyl or after it has been translated back into sound?
the RIAA that is on vinyl without being correctly translated with a phono preamp will be quite thin & wroooooong! A bit like the 1st few CD remasters of LPs. They were awful.
Sorry Tim, that song doesn't sound mastered to me. It sounds like a mix almost ready for mastering.

Allow me to de-mystify what mastering is:

Accurate full range speakers
Linear room response
Highly experienced audio engineer (mastering engineer)
Finest audio equipment money can buy
Quality control

Once all of these are together in the same place there is no more mystery only a professional doing his or her job on professional equipment. A good engineer hears things others cannot and has the objectivity and listening experience to make the correct judgement on what to change, what to leave and the compromises introduced by any adjustments.

cheers
