A quick tune at 1:30 in length
Used a super crappy sounding Sears bass from the late 60's early 70's maybe, regardless it gave me trouble. Any ideas?????

Real cool, but you can totally tell it's midi drums. Also lacking power in all instruments including vocals. Not saying it's bad, just needs some work.

I agree it needs work, nothing seemed to sound as I had invisioned. I'll keep after it....... By the way Mr. FoulPhil I've been enjoying your hillbilly version of "Skulls" .............that is awesome !! That's likely how I ended up doing this and also a version of "Skulls" also.
GOOD SHIT!!

Agree on lacking some energy. I do like the way the vocals are sung and sound. The rest of the instruments just lack some punch. And I agree on the drums sounding programmed. Cool song though.

If you use Ez drummer try loading some different kits up until you find one that sounds pretty natural on it's own. Once you have the midi completely arranged select all the midi and change the velocity to around around 90. Then Humanize the midi until it sounds like someone's really playing the drums. It's all about the velocity. In Studio One Two (My DAW) I can even just highlight individual parts of the midi and lower the velocity as well. Sometimes the cymbals are so out of whack that instead of turning them down I just lower the velocity and humanize them.

I haven't gotten around to messing with overly distorted guitars for a few years, but it will sound better if you use much less distortion and layer your guitar tracks. At least 2 to left and 2 right will get you a much better guitar sound.

I think the lack of energy is due to your guitars being mixed too loud. They drown out the voice, bass and drums. For some reason, we tend to want to turn up the distorted guitars when we want to make a song sound rock n' roll. Often the better alternative is to turn down the guitars and turn up the drums and bass.

Will you take a few moments to listen and comment on tracks other people have posted at the Clinic? I notice all your posts are on your own threads. The Clinic depends on reciprocity--the more feedback we give others, the more we will get.

Current version sounds really good to me. Awesome vocals. Are those the original vocals? (I haven't heard misfits before.) The mix is missing something freq wise though, are there any heavy eqs going on? If you can get a better drum sampler it could be even better I think.

I agree with easlern...something is missing, maybe too many EQ cuts or boosts somewhere. still pretty good, i liked it. I can't say that I felt a lack of energy, but maybe that's from years of listening to punk bands and similarly recorded things. I didn't like the cymbal sounds, that's for sure. kind of washy, i guess. kick can probably come up, guitars down a bit.

And Phil gave a good idea with manipulating the velocities a bit. If you humanize too much though, it gets out of whack. two to three times should be good, in most cases.
