I am building a recording studio in two weeks. It is a 16 x 28 building, and will have 2 interior walls completely isolating the rooms from one another (just imagine the building in sections). One room, the recording "booth", will be an area of about 6' x 16', and that is if I decide not to cut it in half and have two recording booths of 6' x 8'. Does anyone have any good ideas on insulation techniques (double roll or foamboard) or how to better finish the walls (spray foam, etc.). We are very excited about this project and am looking forward to some user feedback. It has been over four years since I posted anything here! Thanks!

Also, if anyone has any recording booth tricks they might want to share, that would be cool too. I will be happy to post some pics after we get finished!

Yo Michael!

You'll get more response if you post this over in the studio construction forum.

Spend a little time reading over there and you'll get some good ideas to help ya out.

Peace...........Kel

Michael -

First, slow waaaaaay down. Start here: https://homerecording.com/bbs/forumdisplay.php?f=20

Do lots of searching.

Studio construction techniques are important, and all can be undone by a casual mistake. Please do lots of research about isolation and room treatment before you start construction. You're in the right place, but charging ahead without an excellent plan is going to prove very very costly when you have to start ripping stuff out.

What is it you want to record? If it's drums, you'll need a better plan. If it's just acoustic guitars, you'll have a lot less problems achieving appropriate isolation levels.

Some unsolicited advice: Forget foam. Forget anything with the word foam in it. Foam is not going to do what you need it to do. Rigid fiberglass and/or mineral wool is what you're looking for.

Serious.

This thread is probably going to get moved to the studio construction forum, so I'll check back there.

Thanks for the replies folks. How do I move this thread? Do I need to repost it?

Again, I appreciate it. THis has been a dream all of my adulthood, so achieving it and realizing it is just an amazing experience.

Thanks again
