Hello. I am going to be trying to make this i-Mic, just so I can get the jist(sp?) of how exactly microphones function. I think this will help me know them from the inside out. Since this site had the only plans to build a microphone, and they seemed relatively easy, I decided that I am going to do it. http://www.planetharmonica.com/ph2/VE/TMI-micUK.htm

I just don't understand what cables would be needed to power this thing? After I built it, would it need phantom power of something of that sort? Anyone have any comments or suggestions??

Thanks

Chris

No, it uses a dynamic capsule that won't require any phantom power.

For this mic it looks like you could just use a 1/4" TS (mono) plug which are easy enough to wire up. (the capsule will have signal and a ground leads). Obviously if you open up a 1/4" plug you'll see an outer connection that's the ground and an inner connection that's the signal (tip).

If you want to use an XLR cable, then pin 1 should be ground and pin 2 should be hot.

Sorry

But, I still am confused on what you said. Since this IS the first attempt in doing this, even after reading a lot about it, I still am confused. How would I use the XLR cable exactly? Try explaining this to me, by keeping in mind I still am a newbie. Also, what do you mean by pin 1 thats hot??? Also, for your first way of using the normal cable, could you also explain that way to me??

Thanks

Chris
