building my basic home studio

im currently building my own music studio(My First time). im purchasing gears probably the cheapest in the world, thats why i shop at Ebay.com mostly. I spent all my money with musical gears coz i know mostly of us are music nerds. I currently have low grade used PC(win98, AMD Athlon) with audiomaster recoding software, an old Roland GR-1 guitar/Module, new soundblaster audigy soundcard, used Ovation electric-acoustic guitar, used zoom 606 multi effect pedal, an old FISHER brand amplifier /w 2 speaker for monitor, new s101 electric guitar. I purchased (currently in shipment now) used Yamaha Cs2x synthesizer. im planning to buy a new mic(model not yet decided) and Roland MMP-2 mic modeller preamp. So what do you think of my studio? rate it 1(bad) to 10(mouthwatery). also please share your cheap music studio thnx

Ummm...that's horrible.

Lose the mic modeller, lose the soundblaster and forget about the Ovation.

If you want the simple good advice, forget about all the toys and focus on one good mic, one good preamp and a decent soundcard. Get an Echo Mia or Terracec or Maudio audiophile. Find a good used preamp like a sytek or even a Maudio DMP3. Then find a mic that sounds good on your voice and guitar and record away.

never heard about your items mentioned, looks like thats for pros, cant really afford to buy $500 gears, my first priority is budget lol, if i can find any used items youve mentioned, il be willing to purchased it thnx

Echo Mia=$150
Maudio DMP3=$250
SM57=$60

That's all. that and a few instruments. Forget aboput the zoom pedal and the mic modeller and you'll be able to swing the important stuff.

get the mmp mic modeler and get the shure 57 mic. for the guitar and a shure 58a beta for your vocals. keep that ovation if it sounds and plays well. The soundblaster audigy card is good enough for beginning and if you get the drive bay for it thats much better. The creative extigy is a 24 bit external soundcard which has midi, spdif, audio and it is connected via usb. Thats what I just got from frys for 129 and a 50 rebate making it $79. Quite a card for 79 bucks..Got one for my spare computer .Convert your analog signal using the mmp digital output and just run that into your program. Your results should be very good.
Lots of folks here knock the roland MMp but I love it and would not give it up for anything
