Hi everybody,
I'm afraid this question may fall into several different categories so I thought I'd post it here.
I'm preparing to build a home studio from which do record audio for a radio show, and I'm probably going to get a new PC to do it. Here's what I'm envisioning and I'd like to know if it's possible or problematic and how to do it.
-Buy a multi-track console (4 or 8)
-Plug a mic into it
-Record multiple phone tracks simultaneously and separately into a PC
(so I can control the levels with faders but at the same time, the mic and each phone line is put onto its own track)
Not sure how many of you out there are familiar with phone recording stuff, I've used both telos units as well as skype and googlevoice to record in the past, but none of these are ideal for multiple lines. I was thinking perhaps if I use multiple computers (one to run each phone line into the mixer). I suspect there are good hardware systems to do all this with landlines, but if I could avoid spending thousands on equipment and add multiple landlines that would be awesome.
And if all that is possible, I still am wondering:
-Is there any software for windows that can do that kind of multitrack recording? (I know ProTools could, but I'd like to stay with a PC if possible)
-What's the best way to plug a mixer into a computer to be able to record separately?
-What kind of sound and video card should I have in the new computer?
Any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated,
Thanks.
