BUILDING..AND NEED PLAN!

Pals, I'm in kinda hurry with this "building" process and don't know how to start.
Can someone help me designing a plan for my garage studio?
I'm not good in architecture and I don't know how to share and design the space ..
I mailed sir John but he didn't answered me..
I suposse he is offline or he didn't received my mail..
I just need a drawing with my measures to start working..
If anyone is good in this, please mail me everything you can.. My garage space will be 5 meters x 3,5 meters..Control room and a tiny vocal booth needed..

P.S. Sorry for bothering, but I'm a real newbie in this studio building process..

Hi Funky.
Just my opinion but your space is so small, I don't think I'd divide it up. I think I'd just treat the walls with sound proofing to keep outside noise out and if you're loud, your noise in. And definatly some sound difusion treatment to tame your space. Just my opinion.

what's the rush??

my initial advice would be to reset your time table ...
if you really are inexperienced, I think the only thing you'll get out of rushing the design/planning stages is a poor design and a poor plan.
This kind of stuff is pretty much impossible to redo once you find out that you messed it up. I'm grappling with a few issues because of my rush to get it all done ... yeah we got to jam in the studio 6 months earlier which was cool ... but 3 years later, there's so much I wish I had taken the time to plan properly. Some of which, I'd have to rip it all out to do it right.
Sometimes a rush job is necessary ... but it's best to take your time with any construction project.
John knocks these studios out pretty quickly, but how many has he done? 6 or 7 million?

That said, your first concern should be what level of soundproofing you need.
How important is it to keep the sounds you make IN the studio ... gonna play alot of drums? loud guitar? do you have neighbors that have the cops on speed-dial if the noise gets to be too much?
If you're in the middle of nowhere, you can save a lot of money and time by simply treating the acoustics and let nature hear your drumming,guitaring, etc.

Second concern ... budget. How much $$$ do you have to put into this studio? include acoustic control, don't skimp on that. If you have $1000 for the whole budget, that will determine what kind of design you can acheive.

Third concern ... isolation. Do you really need to isolate your performance area from the control room? Do you plan to record several musicians at once? Or just you ... if just you ... you may not need any isolation at all and can just use your current room as it is. You could actually need multple iso booths, though ... it all depends on who/what you plan to record.

Anyway, you get the idea ... start thinking along those lines, answer some of those questions and I'm sure the folks here can give you some good design tips.

First, sorry for not explaining the things I want to do with my studio space..


Second, I want to make a small home studio for my needs.. I will record maybe backing vocals.. No live instruments recording.. My studio's major purpose is to do a jingles , and radio commercials, voice overs.. No loud guitars, drums.. Just small cabin for , let say 3-4 backing vocals, a singer,and sort of.. Maybe I will record my acoustic guitar too.. I think you got my point..
My biggest problem is the control room in which I want to achieve clean sounding and good isolation for mixing..

Third, my garage studio is almost in middle of nowhere, I have neighbours but they are not really near me..My main concern is to make a shield from outdoor sounds..

Fourth, the budget is let's say around 1,000 - 2,000 $ for everything..Can I use some alternatives for the materials to lower the costs? I already bought the foams for vocal booth..I need a plan for good isolation with no extra things materials..

I'm shure explaining these things will give everyone a picture of what I'm planning to make..
Please send me some studio design tips or drawings..

Hi FUNKY - sorry bout not getting back, I'm flat out like a lizard drinking at the moment, finishing off the studio etc. I'm about to take off for a week or so. Listen to the wisdom of HR, they will help.
