I want to build a cheap isolation tunnel for the kick drum so I can mic it a few feet back while still having isolation. Before I have made one with a blanket and two recycling bins, but that didn't cut it. I want to make one for very cheap. Any suggestions? What have you guys done for this?

I've tried the blanket held up by a couple of short kic mic stands but I used one of those heavy moving blankets. The quilted ones like from Uhaul or something. They did a pretty fair job.
Hope it helps............

ok to get back on track. Will a trash can really do a good job? Or will it just have a bunch of echo crap.

It sounded good when I tried it. I found a can that was the same size as my kick drum and removed the front head and hoop. Attached the clamps from the hoop to the rim of the trashcan. Then cut out an 11 in hole in the bottom. I miced it with Oktava MK-319 at the hole in the kick drum and a superlux PRA-218b inside the kick drum. You may try putting quilts over the trash can also.

I saw the Idea on some web site, I think they called it a Kick Drum Canon. I could not find the link.

Ok I might try it. I am going to try to use blankets again.

I never did, but I still might. We just didn't have time or room to do it when we were recording. We may record again soon in which case we may try.

Some guys just use a larger bass drum shell for their tunnel. If you have a 22'' kick, then get a 24" shell and use that as your tunnell.

The only thing bad about that, is that you have to go singleheaded with it.

Now, if you went with a smaller hole in th end, it might sound more loke a doubleheaded drum - I'm not sure, try it out before you cut that mega-hole in it. :D

I'll build two of them! :D

Different sized holes....hmm what do people think about building a tunnel for on the ported hole in the reso head..... What would that sound like?
