Hello, new to this site and have a question. I do all my recording at our church but want to build a control room in my house for mixing. Room I have available is basicly 8'x10' ft with a 3x5'alcove" at one end. ceiling is very low at 6.5'. Any thoughts on this room? I have a pair of KRK Rokit 5s that I'm going to be using as monitors. Thanks.

Any thoughts on this room?
You're going to need so much broadband absorption in there that you won't have much room to move.

WoW!
I think my room is pretty useless for "serious" mixing at 12.5x12x8.5ft so smaller than that is pointless?

I think the best you can hope to do is cut down reflections at the "mirror points" and I have a couple of 2ftx2ft x 3" absorbent panels about, one a foot in front of a dglazed window. This gets us a decent stereo image at least but we are never going to get smooth, extended bass (which is why I chose Tannoy 5A's!).

You could do that in the "closet" and check for badnesse'es on cans but I would ask if you can have a "build up, knock down" space at the church.

Thinking about it! Most churches have at least one decent sized meeting room and these are usually dire for acoustics! Bare, often brick walls, no carpets, flimsy blinds. I bet Vic' would be happy if you made the room sound nicer for meetings!

Dave.

ha ha......the room they gave the sound guys before me and the recording is even smaller. I might convert my old workshop in the basement. that 11.5 x 20 X8 and bare concrete walls. Only reason I didn't is my 85 year old mom lives in the appartment we built right above it. That would mean some serious sound proofing on the ceiling!!!
