im always afraid to buy used gear. Especially if I were to buy something like that because i've never played through them before. So I wouldn't really know whether or not there is something wrong with it. Unless it's really obvious. Plus I don't want it breaking down a couple months after I buy it. I know some of you may think im a hypocrite when I say this because of my behringer gear. But i've had no problems at all with it and i've had them all at least over a year.

Right now i'm just experimenting with my tone. I'm constantly trying new things. So like I said, if anyone has any helpful tips on capturing a distorted tone with what I have or can get for pretty cheap, let me know.

musicman hd130 heads are amazing. sovtek mig 60s are a poor mans marshall but you gotta watch out for lemons. ampeg v4s can be balls out if driven right. think all those heads are around 400. you can score a jcm900 for pretty low, round 500. i got one for 350$, i really cant stand the angry bee hive tone but hey for 350 i figured it was a good investment. did a session recently. one guy played through a 76 jmp 100 and a new soldano, other guy played through a mid 70s v4 and a sovtek mig 60 .second guy sounded a hell of alot bigger at about 1k$ less.

i can understand your apprehension with buying used gear but alot of those old heads just sound better imo and if you can score somthing like an older jcm800 that needs work for 400-500 and get a tech to retube and get it running for a couple hundred you end up with a better sounding amp at a cheaper price than most modern heads.
