Any recommendations on a mic for recording acoustic guitar, mandolin, and vocals? I will be using a Tascam 788. Budget is under $200.

Any suggestions appreciated.

thanks,
vp

In that price range (and for those specific applications), I like the Audio Technica 3035.

How about an SE1 (not large diaphram though), made in China but supposed to be well tested. There is an article about the factory in this months Sound On Sound magazine.

If you got a pair of Studio Projects B1's, or one SP B1 (for acoustic) and one MXL V67G (for vocals), with shocks mounts for the mics, you'd still be right at $200., and you could record guitar and vocals at the same time (if you ever wanted to).

Actually, the 788 doesn't have phantom power (needed by the mics mentioned), so if you don't have an external preamp then you'll need to spend more ($150. for an M-Audio DMP3).
