is this ok to spread flyers all over school, so that everyone knows who this girl is? would girls i would like to attract be offended? should i just shut the fuck up and let everyone be able to listen to this song? i personally think this shit is badass, gives me the chills :)

I like the song, overall good lyrics and structure. You might could have brought the vocal up a little, the distorted guitar tends to cloud the voice and make it distort a little. The rest of the mix sounded pretty well balanced and the music complements the lyrics.

your 100% right about the vox, as soon as i burned a test copy and played it in a car on the way to school, i noticed they were way to low. can you believe i recorded the drums with ONE mxl v63m ($80) placed across the room, bonham style. haha, ghetto, but cool sounding
 
I like the drum sound actualy, it fits well the guitar, but the bass needs compression badly it jumps out alot. As to how much compression, I'm not sure, I'm really bad at that sort of thing :P
 
The arrangement's pretty interesting and the song has potential. The recording quality's kind of veiled/hazy though. What kind of mic's and pre's are you using?

im using an mxl v63m to mic the drums (yes, just one set across the room, i guess the acoustics of the room are godly, cuz its a shitty cond. mic) and to mic the bass cab (ampeg svt head into 4x10 ampeg cab), mxl is used for the vocals as well (its the only condenser i have).

i went direct through a korg pre amp pedal thing with my 600 dollar ibanez electric. i compressed vocals but i should compress the bass, must have forgot (yes im that new).

but i just increased the volume in the mix and posted it to replace the old file, check it out now. the pre's are the focus rite that comes with the mbox.

im meeting with a program director tommorow morning about getting a radio quality version made so we can air it asap. I would appreciate any advice anyone here has about it.

A few ideas: While the vocal performance is good, it's got lots of sibilance... try a de-esser to remove the sibilance, or retrack and be careful with mic technique and positioning to avoid it.

The drums sound good - kind of lo-fi but clear and driving. The guitar solo at 2:15 sounds good.

But the whole mix sounds over compressed to me... that might be what's making it sound veiled... so I'd reasses compressor or limiter settings if it were me. If the gtr was squashed that much while tracking, I'd re-do it. If you're using plugins for the gtr compression, slow down the attacks to let more transients through, set levels carefully to get your mix as hot as possible without relying on overcompression or limiting, then use the 2 bus limiter sparingly. It'll sound less squashed and more expressive and live.

i didnt compress the guitar. although, i did go direct from a pod so we could track the drums and the guitar at the same time. If the talk goes well with the program director from a local radio show, and its ganna get some airplay, im just ganna go in a local studio and get it done. although it wouldnt hurt to retrack the guitar through my mic'd Mesa/Boogie :D

Seriously, though; A very good song. On a performance note I thought the vocals could benefit from "cajones" (sic) and mybe you could bring the song to a stop on "....bed and a knife" on a later chorus and then kick back in?

The guitar is a bit fizzy for me. I'd love to hear it re-tracked with a bit more crunch.

appreciate it man. i also believe the vocals need re tracking with a little bit more substance. some fuckin iteration on the heavy words. i only did one take on the vox so i need to redo them. im ganna go ahead and redo guitar guitar on the mesa/boogie.

glad to hear you guys like this. please keep the advice coming, i want a good version before i take it to the station later.
