I am interested in as much feedback I can get on a new song I wrote last week. I recorded it with my BR8, and did a little EQing in Cakewalk.

The name of the song is "Suicide Dead".

Here is the link: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/357/steven_diemert.html

Please let me know what you think. I think it sounds good. But my ears may be playing tricks on me. LOL

Thanks.

Steven

That's a very good recording for a BR-8. Everything sounds good with the sound over here. The guitar sound is good too.

One thing I noticed was the vocals are a bit off key. I'm not a good singer, so take it with a grain of salt. I also wasn't crazy about the drums. I also listened to "Wasted" and it was a similar thing. Nice guitar sound though and decent tunes. Maybe it's just me, but the vocals sound a bit strange.

recording sounds decent though

I really like the BR8. I think it is giving me a good overall sound. I still havent decided if I like my vocals yet. LOL. I am strange, so maybe it is fitting that I have a strange voice. LMAO

drums are too OBVIOUSLY canned. When the solo rhy. gtr. is playing, it needs to rock out more...and I think it could come up in volume too. The vocals are a tad loud, in my opinion. The music seems to lack "energy" until the *whole band* kicks in....I'm not sure if you're going for such a dramatic effect, but I think it needs to have more spunk thru the whole song....yeah...the drum sound really sucks on the ending...

Believe it or not. I was going for a "canned" drum sound on this song. Any suggestions on how to end the drums?.. And Yes I was going for a "dramatic effect" on the changes.

Ok I am gonna need some real feedback here. LOL.... I appreciate the 2 responses I got. But I am really looking for a good response.

I have been trying to learn as much as I can, and have been getting tips from this message board.

(considering everything was done with the BR8)

Do you guys think I am doing ok?

Steven

well...I'll try and give you a "better response."

if you are going for the canned drum sound, I would make it more obvious then, because the drum sound is close enough for "attempting" to sound like real drums, but really suffer when they are out on their own...so maybe a more *fake* sound might help you along there. My impressions were that you just used a poor sounding drum machine, and the effect was lost on me.

Also, on the dramtic effect. I think you can have that, but I was trying to allude that the gtr, when solo...was very un-enthusiastic...and could use something more. It was too bland, and I thought brought your production down.

as far as "doing ok"...I would say yes...but I think the instrument balances are still suffering, and the vocals are still too loud...even for a "vocal up" mix.

Hey cool to see some local stuff!

Good song. I havent read the upper input. So Im non-tainted. The mix sounds really good to me. Maybe more punch to the kick. The guitar sounds great.

Not too crazy about the reverb on the vocals, but Im a delay kind of guy.

Good job on the recording.

I agree on the guitar solo. It needs more balls. LOL

Sondrivin, Its cool to see someone local too.
