Yeah I been drinkin, SO!?
I bought m-audio bx8a's a few months back, and tonight one of them spontaneously stopped working. I didn't even notice it for awhile -- I was just playing some background music while I was wiring up my rack, but yes, it was silent. So I tested it, and yes, it's the speaker, not the channel on my digi 001 (monitor out) or the cable, I've tried lots of other combinations and it;s the speaker. Plus, when I turn it on, it hums. Loud for about a second or two, then more subtly, but it definitely hums. I can't pass a signal through it at all. Plus, every time I turn it off it makes this messed up noise, sort of like a mix of clicking and chirping, like you just yanked a cord out of a live guitar amp.

At the time, I was wiring together some things in my rack (got new cables today to save, uh, tangliness), just a 1ch pre, a sansamp, rnc, and another 1ch com with my digi 001.

Any ideas? How screwed is it? Where do you get these things fixed? I'm afraid to take it to GC, can I take it to a stereo shop? We have a good one nearby. Oh well, thanks for any help.

Yo Tango Charley 4 Baker:

Well, you might check google as there are places that specialize in speaker/monitor repair.

Or, you might have a "stereo" shop in your town that can repair the unit.

Or, you might check the connectors for loose wires/shorts/etc.

Or, you might try a good television repair service as they often deal in speakers.

Or, you could send it to Sweetwater. You could call Sweetwater first, free call, and inquire/ask a techie.

Or, you could buy a new monitor or a new pair of them, an upgrade?

Happy monitoring
