Cool tune and an excellent 'retro' vibe......very nice.
I would like the background singers up a little bit too.
Other than that......I think you've captured the feel of that era and I don't think I'd mess with it too much.

Good work.

Thanks again for listening.

Crawdad,
I'm using ProTools LE. I've done what you're talking about before and will probably end up doing it to this vocal.

TripleM,
I hear you about the lack of energy. He's not a very energetic guy. Sometimes it bugs me, but in this tune I think it works. Great ear about that 1:44 thing. I never noticed it before, but you're right. I've messed around with it and can't figure out how to fix it yet. I know the real answer is to retrack...but I'm hoping I can "fix it in the mix".

Lt. Bob,
Thanks. I think I am going to mess with it though. But I'm going to take a long break from it first.

fprod, car hops, '57 chevy, getting it in the back seat. Great tune. I love the vocals. Great feel. Percussion sounds great. More.

Interesting tune ...

This song reminds me of a lot of different genre's all at the same time. At first I was put off by the vocal, but as I listened to it, I really came to like it. It add's to the song's "lamenting nostalgia" ......... lamenting nostalgia??? where'd I get that one from?

A couple of suggestions:

1) At 0:57, I really want to hear some background vocals joining the lead vocal on the "I" of "And .. I ....". The song sounds like it wants to build at that point. I think I hear a horn in the background that has the right idea, but it get's lost a little in the mix.

2) Enjoy the guitar break at 1:15, but wouldn't mind hearing it a little hotter in the mix.

3) The second chorus at 2:19 get's a little too busy/crowded. Sounds like you're throwing everything at the mix at that point. The foundation of the song get's lost in all the instrument/voices. I hate to say it, but the background vocals during that chorus may be the problem.

Bottom line: I really liked the tune and will keep it on my personal playlist. I look forward to any remixes.

Boy great song, but I must echo the remarks about the lead vocal.I'm sure the laid back style works with some songs but it seems a wee bit out of place.
And yes I felt the low end was weak.
I think the world is ready for a resurgence of this type of music,I know I am.

dtb,
I've got three car hops within a mile from my home. We're way behind the times here. Thanks.

bpoco,
I tried the "I...I" harmony part when I tracked this. You're right, I'm just not a good enough singer. You're also right about the bg vocals getting in the way there. It doesn't help that the saxes are out of tune. I've considered pulling the bg vocals out there, and you've confirmed that I should do it. The remix will be down the road. My ears need a long break from this, but I've gotten tons of great comments here that will definetly be used in remixing.

acidrock,
I will work on the low end. Nothing I can do about the energy of the vocals though. There is a disconnect between the energy of the lead and bg vocals. I'm a skinny hyper guy, he's a "round" laid back guy. I've got another project I'm working on with just the drummer. It's a lot more energetic.

Cool-nice job with the ole I-VI-IV-V----nice job with the background vocs-lotsa neat stuff goin on-Glock?? I need one of those....I like the sound of real drums-thumbs up for that! Cool breaks with the layered guitars-though I might have dropped the original guitar-to pronounce the effect a bit more--maybe it would sound like shite too-what do I know? Anyway I enjoyed listening to this-kind of a lo-fi sound-and it does have a velvet underground vibe to it. Good tune.
