I'VE BEEN PRODUCING FOR 7 YEARS AND I'VE DONE A INTERNSHIP FOR WYCLEF AWHILE BACK AT HIS STUDIO, SO I KNOW I CANT DUPLICATE SOME OF THOSE HI END PROFESSIONAL MIXES, THOSE GUYS USE SSL BOARDS, VINTAGE LA2AS SONY C800 MICS ETC ETC,

WHAT MY PROBLEM IS THAT I CANT SEEM TO GET A MIX THATS TRANSPARENT. MY KICKS AND BASS TRAKS CLASH, MY VOCALS SOUND LIKE CRAP MY MIDS (STRINGS DONT REGISTAR). I KNOW THE BASIC FOR COMPRESSION EQING AND REVERBS BUT I THINK I LOST PERSPECTIVE IN MY MUSIC...HELP!LOL

SO I WANT YOU GUYS TO TELL ME IS HOW MY MIX SOUNDS ON YOU SPEAKERS ETC AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU WOULD DO TO MAKE THE MIX BETTER http://www.soundclick.com/jhooks <<< click there for the song

I like your sound and voice...

Firstly what mic and pre do you use..?

What kind of compression do you have on the drum mix..?
The right compression will make the drums sound real nice.

I would say mute everything but the drums and mix them till theres no tomorrow, then bring in your vocals. If theyre sounding good together, bring in your violins and other sounds and mix and pan them accordingly...

That will give you a good starting point.

thanks alot man.
i use the tube pre from presonus and the rhode nt1-a condenser mic.

I usually tweak around with the kick and snare and then bus the drums to an 1176 ln uad plugin. usually I set the input to 18 or so and the output to about 18 or so. and the ratio is 4 and release to and attack pretty fast.

I think my major problem is that I use to mix pretty good when I was using the mpc 2000xl and some outboard gear and I use to tweak the hell out of the drums, to the point where i was getting my own signture sound and my boys where loving my kicks and snares(especially the snares), then my boy put me on to propellerhead reason and I kind of abandon the mpc2000xl. I sold all my outboard gear and mpc thinking the daw system would give me a better sound. but things sound to harsh to me in the digital relm. thats why my perspective is lost.

i got the event project studio 8 and some a pretty decent board tascam fw1884. but what i dont got is any luck in warming things up with the pc.
