I've been watching the economy and my 401K... both getting hammered. In disgust and to relieve stress, I thought, "why not go drop a couple grand and get some music production gear!?" It was a sort of George Costanza - do the opposite of what I should approach. So I did. It was actually a long time comming and music is very important in my life.

I got the interface, monitors, mic and some accessoies along with a Vox AC15 tube amp and a few effects pedals. I already had a Yamaha MM8 running through BX5a's (will use for midi too) along with a lefty Strat and an accoustic guitar.

Now that I have this gear, I need a clue. The MM8 came with Steinberg AI4... VERY intimidating. It looks like one needs a college education just to use the stuff. I checked into YouTube; some stuff there, but I need "AI4 for Extreme Dummies." I'm open to any suggestions there.

In any event, here I am. I love the Indie, Post-Rock, ambient, experimental and so called "shoegaze." I'm hoping to create my own music along these genres.

Exicited to be here - it looks like a great environment for guidance and learning!

What interface?

And what exactly do you need help figuring out?

You might want to try Reaper as your DAW first. It's free to download and try out. The manual is a pretty good starting point, too.

Interface: M-Audio Fast-Track Pro.

Need Help: Figuring out Cubase AI4, among other things

I have newer versions of Cubase, tho the basics are still the same. I would be glad to try to help. It really isn't that tough once you get your head around the program and understand why there are so many options. I was lost at first as well. You are not alone there dood. Or doodette, if that is your gender. :)

I think the key question here, the elephant in the room so to speak.

Do you play an instrument?

..uh, yeah.

Jimmy, thanks and I hope you meant it because there's a solid chance I'm going take you up on that offer.
