Thanks Jason, we decided to simplify V2 after the comments on V1. We approached with 3 stages: verse (simple/ clean), bridge (more movement), chorus (vocal fill/ more punch). Your drums fit nicely, Gerry did guitars and B/U vocals at his studio, the rest at mine. After we got yours we mixed/ cleaned a bit for overall feel. On HC one comment was about the "live" feel which I agree is difficult out of 3 seperate studios. All in all I think we got something simple but interesting, definitely smoother than V1 but in a live situation it could be expanded upon (drum solos, wild 32 bar guitar breaks, etc). One important detail I try for is staging, ie: player's position on stage should be able to be determined with careful balancing (close your eyes and point). Thanks again and we'll talk new project soon.

Mike, it's a terrific song!
the stereo image of a band on stage is pretty clear.
There are several points when holes appear though due to the bass being fairly quiet.
maybe you need to add some chorus to it or spread Gerry's rhythm guitar into stereo to give some balance.
I get the live band stereo image but the rhythm guitar is meaty & the lead bitey so there's a sense of leaning to one side.
OR it could be my new headphones.

Hi Ray
I guess I could've boosted the bass a bit more but it's a fine line: on the verse I'm an octave up from the bridge/chorus which on the Rickenbacker (notorious for ringing highs) sounds much like a guitar. It kind of disappears as it matches note with guitar and vocal at a couple of points. This particular stage Gerry's rythm is placed about 35% to one side while bass is the other side, lead near center, lead vocal center, B/U vocals slightly to each side of center. You're right about Gerry's rythm dominating the the one side but I liked the tone so much....

Sounds pretty good. I like the swing feel to it and more upbeat tempo. My only only mix critique would be for bigger drums with more presence.

like the tune and the singing.

However, I swear, there are timing issues. The drums are off that 10 ms it seems and just not in the pocket. If I could see it, I'd say they are late and there are hesitations in areas too...by that small amount too.

Hi Greg and Mixmkr!
The drums were mixed in clean/ dry and when matching wave profiles the "hits" match exactly for the most part aside from human variances (mostly me). We could "snap to grid" but....Maybe the mix is slightly out of sync, I'll check again. If we added reverb and EQ to drum we could probably get more presence however I do like to keep the rythm (bass/drum) as clean as possible. Gerry and I will have to discuss these comments, maybe make a few tweaks. That's why we need comments like yours, sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees. You know, your fingers hurt, your ears must be bleeding, you've gone over the mix up down and sideways but still miss something your neighbor's 7 year old could've see a mile away.
Mike

The vocal has potential, but in my opinion the overall sound is a bit cute and timid. Pay no attention to me and be more confident.

Hi ToBe
Have you listened to V1? Agreed it's very rough but did you like the overall feel better? The comments were that it was too busy, had a lot of timing issues and the vocals, well....Anyway I thought it had a bit more blues, more punch at spots, definitely more bass presence. BTW I did the lead guitar line (my first try) and that part pretty much sucked so dont blame Gerry.

A few more changes, thanks to some keen insight from you.

I've already complained in the BBS Feedback to not change the hyperlinks - so if you're wonder why it looks like it does it must be some feature of VB4. So the mix sounds nice Mike - I think the bass is still weak in spots but that's minor.
