Hi,

I'm brand new to sound production and this website. I have applied to go to college next year to study it.

I'm wanting to get started myself though and I am thinking of getting Pro Tools 9 with the M-box.

The reason I am going for Pro-Tool is for one, I cannot afford a mac and two, it is what the college uses to teach.

The only problem I have is that apparently I can only use M-Audio and digi-design hardware with pro-tools? Is this a major problem?

Would love it if someone could help explain it all to me.

Thanks

as of 4th nov, this is not true.

protools le 8 and below require digidesign hardware (like mbox)

protools mpowered 8 and below require maudio hardware.

protools nine is the first which uses an ilok authorisation, and allows you to use any interface you like (presumably including built in audio?)

Well, that's actually pretty decent, would you still recommend in getting the m-box to start out?

i can't see why not, although i don't have much experience with small interfaces.

i use a digi 003 normally, and only bought my mbox 2 for uni away from home.

no problems with it so far :):)

Now that PT9 has launched I would wait a few weeks and get PT8.04 and an M peripheral. These will be going for a song.
PT9 doesnt offer a huge amount more if you are starting out and if you were intending on using Maudio hardware.
Good Luck
