Returned from the dead
Alright here you go. It's fucking terrible.
Drums
Bass
Guitars

Tear it apart, pick it apart tell me what sounds like shit, what needs to be fixed AND tell me how to fix it. There's no point in telling me something sucks if I'm not gonna learn from it eh?

I'm tired, I'm frustrated, I'm going to bed

you need to host that file somewhere, dude. people are less likely to download something than just listen to it. stand by.

Thanks EZ!

dont put your stuff down dude...whats this like your 2nd tune ever?

Im on my laptop so cant say much about the mix but Ill listen to it properly and see if I can help with anything...I have a feeling its a muddy and the guitars need a boost in the HFs....not sure about that kick either

but good tune, and not badly played at all....can you sing or is that pushing it?

I think you've got the foundation of a decent track here Nic...Ill listen to it properly after the weekend :drunk:

It's the second tune I've recorded myself, the second tune that I've mixed that I've posted in the clinic. but it's the first tune that I've done that has actual recorded instruments done by me rather than synths and other people's tracks (aside from the drums of course).

The guitar really bothers me... I think I may have been WAY overthinking it, I chatted with legionserial for a while and got some idea's on what I could do to fix it so I'll get every last bit of advice I can get first and re-track later using new techniques and settings and what not.

And yes, I'm gonna give singing a shot but I wanna get the instrument mix/tracks right/good first so I have something positive behind my vocals so I can have a shred of confidence.

I also really need a lesson in drum sounds. I think a good drum sound primer might help me out a little. Any piece of advice or direction is greatly appreciated from anyone. I need to know what to aim for tone-wise (guitar bass and drums) so I can be objective while tracking and get things set up properly in the first place so I don't have to fight with it later.

The audio anarchy link is broken - sorry! Well, at least that's the message I received when I tried it.

Not a bad tune tune at all, KOP.
Hell, you're just at a certain phase in the learning process, but I'd say you're on your way. Things that stand out: first off the snare sounds terrible, get some meat and less tin-can in it. Kick is too loud, bass too, guitars too low and a bit too scooped. Get some fat mids in them. Your playing's great and on the spot though. But in all, way better than my second mix was....;)
So keep doing it, you'll get better.

Joey :)

RayC - Did you check the first link I posted? It should still be available incase the A&A link is down.

Joeym - Thanks for the kind words! I'm using drum samples so I think that I may go with a different kit altogether.. .I hated that snare too but without any experience in drums I had no idea what to aim for.
Thank you very much for the compliments :D

Ok, here is my second go. The guitars aren't tracked all the way through and they weren't tracked to the best of my ability but as for right now, I'm just trying to get the sounds/tones right.

Some changes - New bass tone, I also need to retrack some of the bass because the timing was a little off.
New guitar tone (of course) This time it was one mic on my amp and one direct guitar. I think I need to drop the gain on my amp a little (real amp is the left side).
All new drum sounds. Lesson to be learned here - always check the phase on your snare... even in samples.

this isnt bad at all mate...the snare sounds a little like hitting a bit of wood...but i dont think i like what your aiming for anyway..

the mix is clean..i like the guitar tone..and the bass is totally 80's sounding...really like it dude..the stuff you're actually playing is sound..its the drums I dont like theyre a bit lifeless

Id say you need an expert on those drums to seal the deal...

good job :)

Yeah, I REALLY need a lesson on drums lol... I need to mess with the velocity of the drum hits and whatnot but again, I wouldn't even know where to start.
Guitar tone could use a little more work, I like the bass tone but I'd really like it to be an over-driven bass tone.
Once I get a few more kinks out I'm gonna retrack the guitars, retrack a few parts of the bass, figure the drum sounds out  and then it's on to vocals! Yay!

:o

Coolieo KOP...... I like it! A good head banging beat with class.

Definitely doesn't sound as bad as you make it out to be. I think the 2nd (soundclick) mix did sound superior to the one on the A&A link, but they're overall somewhat similar sounding to me.

I think the playing is fine, but the guitars seem to lack substance in their tone...a little on the light side. Bass sounds good, but perhaps too present vs. everything else?

The drums are the weakest element imo. They don't sound horrible or anything, just not how I'd want 'em. The whole mix seems a bit overly centered to me, but that could be my listening set-up.

I'd say, in general terms, lower the kick, snare and bass - (or just bring up the guitars), keep working on the guitar tone and maybe find a way to spread things out a bit more.

Just my thoughts...Keep at it! :)

I really feel like the bass guitar isn't cutting through, which I'm guessing is why I keep the guitars a little lower than what most would expect and why the bass seems a tad too present.

And again, I really need a good drum lesson beaten into me :p:D

I thought the bass sounded pretty good on both mixes I listened to, it just seemed louder in relation to other elements than I'd think you'd want. But don't go by what I'm saying as no one else is mentioning it.

I wish I could help with the drums. I am lazy and under-equipped. I used drum machines and currently loops, so I don't have to do nearly as much as these guys that program them, let alone play them. I am continually amazed by home recordists who go through that effort and get good results.

I'm listening to the Soundclick stream.
Very post punk bass line - nice.
The snare sounds like a timbali in some spots.
The cymbal is a bit busy in the change.
Lead bass - cool!
To get the guitars up & the bass to cut through that you'll need to boost a few dbs around 3khz on the bass line & a little peak at 200 as well. Mind you I like the current bass sound when the gtrs aren't happening.
