When you record on the BR 8 you need to turn the reverb off within the loop effect, not just with the virtual dial. This will save alot of recording Headaches. Assuming you want to record dry and add effects later.Had to share this cause ive had one too many headaches with this unit

Hey, I just bought a BR-8 a few weeks ago. do you have any more helpful tips? I could use all the help I can get. So far I've turned out one decent recording.

Thanks

If you have any q's just respond again and i will try to help...too much info to type unless directed...quirky little machinr but it works for the $$ or relative lack thereof.

Sync?

I´m pretty happy with my BR-8, but... have you been able to synchronize it with Cubase, playing Boss as a Master via MIDI? I tried lots of times, and failed always.

Sorry, I prefer not to get into that stuff. I just use it like any old recorder only its digital. Why not try a new thread to see if anyone else knows. Good Luck!

Nor have I been able to get the midi synch going between my Boss DR5 and the BR-8. Not even with the help of the Boss techs (via telephone calls on my account inasmuch as Boss doesn't offer toll-free support); they didn't show any particular insight or background on the topic.

Over the past 8 months I've steadily increased my comfort with the BR-8 thru bulletin board correspondents and trial & error. Mostly the latter. There's much more to learn and I like my recordings.

I write about my struggles and successes at

Yeah, it´s really disgusting that everyone who uses BR8 does it just like an analog tape recorder (not attempting to offend!), ignoring MIDI possibilities, and those who use Cubase are just Techno kids, so they hate guitars...

At least, I got Cubase receiving the MIDI signal from BR8, although it doesn´t work. I think if I kick my computer maybe Cubase will react :D

It seems that depends of the famous "fps" mentioned in BR8 manual, but....

I don´t have a DR5, and don´t know it... what about its MIDI features? Tell us...

Good luck, and keep on fighting,

Al

BR-8 sync issues

It's interesting to read other people's sync experiences with the BR-8. Personally, I've never had a problem syncing my BR-8 to my sequencer (Cakewalk Professional 6); when I started, I just connected the B to my MIDI interface (a MIDIman MIDIsport 2x2 USB box), set Cakewalk and the B to the same sync method, and they've worked flawlessly ever since.

The exception is when I use MIDI Sync instead of MTC. For some reason, with the former method, Cakewalk doesn't sync properly; it only seems to understand "start" and "stop" from the BR-8, and doesn't appear to take notice of the point within the song. Thus, if I stop the BR-8, "wind" back (say) 22 seconds and press play, Cakewalk simply starts playing from the point where it last stopped, instead of sync'ing with the BR-8's time. Usually, I'll use MTC instead of MIDI Sync, as it's far more reliable in my experience, but there are just some occasions when MIDI Sync would be more convenient.

For the record, I think the BR-8 is the best bit of recording gear I've ever bought, except perhaps for the Oktava condenser mike and Voemeek VC3Q compressor/pre-amp I bought to go with it...!

Any questions, I'll try and help.

All the best,
Tim.
