Hi All,

I new to recording full stop and wondered if someone could offer some advice on the following digital recorders, Boss BR-1600, TASCAM 2488, and Yamaha AW16G. Has anyone got experience with more than one of the mentioned models and offer me some advice on pro's and con's of the models. I've been wading through all the resources on the web but it starting to get a little to much. thanks

At the moment I like the 2488 due to its 24 tracks, the BR-1600 due to Drum and Bass samples etc and the guitar and vocal effects, and the AW16G as Yamaha make very good quality equipment (but it only has 2 x XLR's and no USB).

Thanks for the absolutely useless reply in the other thread. You have no first hand knowledge of any of the products in question. I double posted not knowing if users of the TASCAM forum would read the Roland forum. Unless your a moderator.........get off your high horse. :p

Well so much for slapping the hand that helps.

No I have never owned either of these. But I have spent 10 or more hours playing with the 2488.(Guitarist friend owns one?) I have a 788 which has a similiar vibe. I also have researched these for 6 months now. I have also played with the Yami and music store for over an hour. I bet you wont be able to find anyone here who has played with all of these extensively. They will own one or the other and will either hate it or love it. Sorry guy you wont get clear answers just opinions trying to sway you one way or another.

I had the Roland VS880(?). I told you Roland and Boss are similiar. Why do you think they have the same forum here??? Figure that out yet. I told you I didnt like it. I also told you that I narrowed it down to the 2488 or the the Yami. I like the Yami mostly for its reputation and other reviews I read. I also like the fact it has a 4 band eq per channel. It has been around for while and has its bugs worked out. Downside is it on the way out?? Seems all the other Yami's minus the AW16 have run their course and wonder what is next. Also is not 24 bit.

I like the 2488 because I have owned Tascam stuff before and had good luck. Has 24 tracks(you can do 8 more live for 32 total during mixdown with the sub mixer). 24 bit. Nice layout. From what I have heard it has really good pre's. Can be upgraded to 140 gig hard drive easily.

Does this help you snob. :) If not go fish.:(
