I concur... very good for your first.. A bit much verb. Bring up the kick a tad and the guitar. back the hats down a tad and I think it`ll clean up pretty good. Its got a kindof CSNY sound to it though, actually It`s cool...

I thought the same thing.

Thanks, deepwater. Since I ain't Neil, I got nothin' 'gainst no southern man, anyhow.

Now I think about redoing the song, or working on the next one...

sounds good, i actually prefer the meandering... let the song be as long as you want, could you tell me how you recorded the drums? i think like quite a few people already mentioned that the cymbals are the only tiring part but that's simply a case for some mixing. all good!

Hi, Kanga.

Thanks for the encouraging words.

The drums are from a Yamaha RY9 Rhythm Programmer, which is a drum machine. It was run direct into the US122 in stereo. I added some reverb. I go into more detail in some of the posts above.

Thanks again!

I guess my soundblaster live and Cambridge speakers doesn't bring out all the particular differences everyone is talking about because I didn't really really notice the "in" or "out" of the mix stuff.

I've been playing drums many a year and I could not immediately determine if it was a drum machine or just a "simple" drummer because of the accenting on the hi-hat. Drop the hi-hat volume and throw in a few new patterns with variations to the bass drum and I bet 99% of the folks out there won't know it's a drum machine. Aren't those just sampled "real' drums anyway?

I LOVE reverb. I would marry it if I could. It makes my drums and vocals sound WAY better. I would rather have a bit "more than I should" to enhance the instrument and vibe than have the "proper" amount and have it sound dry and weak.

God must have reused Neil Young's vocal cord mold when he made you. Haha! Maybe a Neil Young tribute band is in your future?? ;)

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Newbie-Doo.

A tribute band? I don't know. I guess I could pull it off, but I don't think it'd be all that much fun. I'd rather make my own cheesy music.

Thanks for the comments on the drums. I might look at some kind of software for that next time.

I'd say more Crosby than Neil Young...

Almost Cut My Hair?

I love that song and I'm diggin this one as I type....COME ON!

Thanks, J.

It's hard enough to find time to record original stuff, let alone trying to cover others work. And when you do the cover you have to be so good at it for it be worth something.
