This should be such a basic thing I'm embarrassed to ask it but-

I've got 16 tracks of handclaps panned all over the place that I want to go to two tracks (L+R).... I tried just doing a straight render of the time selection with the tracks solo'd, but when I Insert -> Media file to drop it onto an available track, I'm pretty sure I'm losing the stereo image because I can't figure out how to make the track a stereo track...

I've tried "Render stems as new take" and "Consolidate/Export" and each of them just seem to generate like 100 new files making a total mess of my root directories....

I'm sure there's an easier way to do this(?) Does anyone know what it is?

What about putting eight of the tracks under a folder track and pan it hard left, and do the same for the right? I'm new at this and probable don't understand your question but I thought I would throw it out there...

I don't think reaper has mono/stereo tracks, I think they're all stereo if you put something stereo in them, and mono if you put something mono in them.

there's probably a better answer but I'd either 1) put them all in a folder together so they're out of the way, or 2) render the claps as a single stereo file and re-import it into the session and delete the unneeded tracks. But I'd go with 1), I like to keep everything as long as possible.

Yeah someone on the Reaper forum just told me the same thing. I guess there's also a "width" fader I should be looking for after I re-import the stereo track..

If you drop a stereo track into Reaper, it sees it as stereo. Your pan width should default to full width, unless you have changed it in your preferences.
