i bought my second sennheiser md421,
first one is XLR, easy to use,
this one is a light grey one, with a "rotary switch" to change between S and M (speech and music if i'm correct, sound like S is a bass rolloff)

anyways, it has a 3 pin tuchel connector,
i got a cable with it, with a 5-pin-tuchel (or is it DIN) on one end,
and TS jack on the other end,

should i change this cable, or connector so it is balanced?

maybe its best to keep this cable, not to cut it,
and to make me another tuchel-to-xlr one,

but what are the connections in the little tuchel connector?

hot, cold, ground...to what pin?

thanks in advance for the advice

Are you sure about the Tuchel? As memory serves me, tuchel is a big connector with three flat pins, Din is smaller than XLR with three pins as well, but some female connectors have five or even six pins. The five pin fits to the mic, the six pin doesn't.

Please let me know, for I do have schematics from Sennheiser.

oh, i think you're right, its probably Din,
its small, i think its the same connector as a midi cable...(too bad i lended my 1 midi cable out to a friend so can't compare)

i need the mike on a session this sunday, gonna do a test recording to see if this cable works fine... but i remember i once bought an AKG D12 with a TS cable, and sounded louder and better when i replaced it with an xlr,
might be the same case with this mic..

took some pictures of the mic and connector, guess what,
camera ran out of batteries, can't copy the pics to my pc...jezus..

..searching for two batteries now...might post pics within a few minutes

ah, that site with schematics is superb, thanks !

2 minutes later:

here's the thing, can't resize the pics cause after a harddisc crash i got no more applications installed on this pc :( hope u got the latest internet explorer so its resizes them automaticly..

ok, i found a din connector with 3 pins,
gonna try to solder it to a cable with XLR on the other side...

in the main time, sounds stupid i know, but,
if i use this 'original' red cable, with one end din, other TS,
where do i plug this in?
in the line in of my mixing desc? thats a pretty weak signal,
now i have to use it with a preamp that has a 1/4" jack input?
so old sennheisers can only be used in preamps, not in mixing descs?

gonna see how it sounds when i plug it in the instruments input of my joemeek vc8 ...
