Hey guys

I just bought a this from ebay and everything seems to work just fine,
I just wanted to learn how to demagnetize and clean the heads properly...i'm totally new to this.

In pretty much all videos and written instructions on the internet it says you have to hold the degausser 1m (3f) away from the head and move forward slowly, not to touch the head with it but get as close as possible and go back and forth for a little while, then remove the degausser slowly away and then turn it off.

My question is: The Tascam 424 has a "cleaning mode" and when reading the manual it doens't say if i should turn off the machine before demagnetization or just do it while the unit is on and on "cleaning mode".

all tips about how to clean and service this machine is welcome!

Thanks

Never Demag your machine with it on.
This. You'd be giving the machine a signal of about 10'000 VUs and it will probably fry the channel cards if they're powered up.
Always make sure it's switched off first.

New problems

Hi there, so i already learned how to demagnetize the heads but i do have another problem now...a much bigger and ugly problem...
ready?

Alright. I plugged the Effect 1 send to my guitar effect pedals chain and plugged it back to the mkiii through the channel 7 stereo input...after a while though, i noticed that the unit what sending the signal to my monitors and headphones really really loud! and i couldn't turn the MONITOR LEVEL KNOB down! the knob is just dead and now everything that goes to my monitors and headphones plays at deafening volumes...i don't know what is the problem, if i'm missing something or what i did wrong...the guys a teac company told me to send it to them so they can fix it, but i wanted to know if this has happened to any of you before and if there's an easier solution to this issue.

thanks a lot!
