I had 2 XT's and 1 XT-20..... one of my XT's broke down (power supply), so I thought what the heck.

I bought a HD24 to replace them all, and I am totally pleased.
Highly recommended. Bought 2x80Gb drives too, so I got 2x 6.3 hours worth of recording to do.

Woohoo. :) :) :)

i want one! :( i have no money though. guess i will have to stick with my xt20's and brc.

ADAT's RUUUUUUUUUUUUUULE, but gotta' give HUGE LUV to my HD24!!!

The joint is soooo eee-zee to use, even an idiot like me can operate AND understand what the heck I'm doin' w/o constantly referring to the manual!!! :D :p :D

that is because it IS an adat!! lol (3 to be exact)

would there be any advantage to using my brc with this unit?

Yes - for remote arming of tracks....

I'd clock the BRC with something else though -- I use a Lucid GENx6...

Blue Bear, if clocked from a remote unit, how much difference in sound would the HD24 produce ?

Would it be noticable on one track, or not until you stacked up 8 or more ?

What clock would you recommend as good value in price/perfomance, meaning that I can't afford the highest quality clocks by any stretch. But if I were to spend money on it, I'd like to know which level to aim for, to hear a difference in sound.

Thanks.

does it really matter if all your tracks are on the same unit? i understand if you are using say 3 adats. where you have separate machines. how much benefit would it be if all your tracks are on the same unit?

The clock is for upgrading the performance of the A/D D/A converters. Not syncing the tape transport together.

so my DAW with a motu 2408 on the front end could benefit from a clock?

Yes.

But I must admit, I have not a good grip of which units that's out there, what's good and what's not.

But any clock that's better than your internal clock would be an upgrade I guess, and a standalone masterclock should in most cases logically be one or more steps up.

Which ones are best, or best value ? I don't know. I'll wait for Blue Bear to respond.

Well... I'm pretty much sold on the Lucid -- and it's probably the best value for the money out there right now... I'm not sure that you get a whole lot better clocking paying for the higher-priced Apogees.

The difference in sound quality is rather subtle on 1 or 2 tracks, but you get to 24-tracks and everything just opens up a bit more -- tighter low-end, smoother high-end... it IS noticeable.

Same here. Clocking the HD24 with a GenX6 is the way to go for me.

i just got some $$$ to spend!!!! should i do it guys? i have been eyeballing this thing since they came out. then i would have to sell my adats. should i keep the brc, or can you do all the functions you need from the front panel?

Keep it all.:D The BRC will work very well with the HD24. The HD is sooo cool. Twenty-four tracks and you don't have to wait for the ADATs to chase and lock. And the A/D D/A converters sound better than the ADATs. Extremely cool.

what will the midi in and out do for me? how easy is it to copy and paste? if i keep the adats, how will they work with the hd24 given that the tape length is not the same as what a hard drive would be?

Hmmmmm...I have heard a tad smoother upper midrange between the HD24 and old type I ADAT converters, but no difference at all between the XT-20's and the HD24 converters. On some projects, the HD24 has been a little too "dark" sounding, and the metering sucks butt!

Warning about the BRC. You WILL get some squirly problems using it with a HD24. The problems vary and come and go. They don't however take away from the coolness and convienence of having one.

About clocking. I have heard no difference at all between the BRC's, HD24's, and the Lucid GenX6 clocks! The Lucid did make a huge difference on the MAudio Delta 1010 however. But compared to the HD24 and BRC clocks, I just don't hear it, and I really do want to hear it! But I don't. We use the GenX6 anyway because we more of less have to so that everything stays cool.

i did it! picked it up last night for $1500. brand new, just no box. open item at wwbw. i am going to start messing with it tonight. didnt have a chance last night. anyone know of a good place to pick up drives for cheap?

lol
while i was at it, i pick up a bunch of sabian hand hammered cymbals for my studio kit. i also got a david garibaldi signature 22" ride cymbal. it was one they had gotten in for a drum clinic with him. so, he has actually played this ride. lol oh yeah baby.
