I'm new to the BOSS BR 800 and would appreciate some suggestions for EQ, Reverb, Chorus settings for my vocal tracks when Mastering. It was suggested by Roland techs that I use no effects initially and just record natural vocals, then add reverb and other effects during Mastering. I record my piano tracks from my KORG PA588 on Tracks 1 and 2 with direct lines in and my vocals on Track 4 with a condenser mic. I'm trying to get a good professional sound at the end that doesn't sound like my piano and vocals are in 2 different locations. The piano sounds great due to the pre-defined EQ of the keyboard sounds. The vocals sound too out in front of the keyboard, kind of muffled and like I'm in a closet full of carpet. I also don't want to sound like I'm in a drum or a cave with too much reverb. Thanks for any help!

My best advice: Turn up the effects you want to use until you hear them. Then back them off just a little. AFA EQ, there is no way anyone can tell you how to EQ something they haven't heard. You'll need to post examples. Muffled vocals might be due to a lot of different things. Mike, mike settings, distance from the mike, ambiance of the room, and maybe (small chance) EQ. Get the source right first.

Makes sense. Thanks for the reply!

You can't apply chorus, reverb etc. to vocal tracks in a multi track mix when mastering - that's what you do when you mix.

Mastering involves processing your stereo track, which already has the vocal effects mixed in.

Terminology... important if you want to be understood.

Post a sample if you want real advice, including what the signal chain is (ie. what mic) - if you're new to recording vocals there could be any number of reasons it's sounding less than stellar. Hard to diagnose without hearing. And chorus on a vocal... be vewy vewy careful.

I've just acquired a BR-800 too and it's my first digital recording device. How far I've gotten is I've managed to find a few decent effects for my semi-acoustic guitar but I'm having trouble with the condenser mic in that the effects are not being applied and it sounds the same regardless of changing them. I guess I must be doing something wrong. I've definitely turned the condenser option on and the mic is working and audible. Anyone know what I should do? Thanks.
