boiling strings

That's the idea, but the thing is; why? Strings are cheap, and you use up an awful lot of your time trying to fix a problem that will be fixed better by changing strings. And, of course, boiled strings STILL have the wear from the frets on them, so they still mess up your intonation.

i've heard people suggest boiling new strings before you put them on the guitar. what would that do?
 
bass strings aren`t cheap for most folks. I have rejuvenated many an old set by soaking in vinegar or buttermilk. It takes at least overnight for the acid to break down the crap, but it eliminates heating the strings.
