Boiling Strings ?

OK here it goes.
Get a length of PVC pipe and cap one end and use a screw cap on the other end. Fill the tube with denatured alcohol and put your strings in overnight. This woks well with bass strings.

I've never boiled my strings (I use another method...it's secret )...but I'm not saying that it doesn't have merit. So speaking from pure ignorance, at a glance it seems silly to boil steel strings...it just doesn't seem logical.

Whenever I think about this topic, the first thing that comes to mind is an old Arnold Schwarzenegger anecdote. Another body builder asked him what his secret was for gaining all of his impressive muscle mass. His reply was, "eat lots of salt". And people did...obviously not knowing that he was pulling their leg.

Anyway...sorry I didn't add any value to this thread, but I thought I'd share this little story for purely entertainment purposes.
